Innovations

May 2019

The NocTel team recently attended a leading telecommunication conference to see what innovations are coming to the world of telecommunications and learn how these innovations can be incorporated into the NocTel system. The team also got a chance to view new products and updates that are already available or soon to be that can make NocTel even better.

Bridge Mode Support on FMAs.
NocTel uses AudioCodes devices (FMAs) to enable analog fax machines to work over an Ethernet connection and with NocTel Services. For some time NocTel has asked for bridge mode functionality on the LAN port on these devices. AudioCodes has implemented bridge mode support with their new MP-202D model. Existing and in use MP202B FMA devices do not support Bridge mode. Bridge mode, once configured on the new devices, will enable the LAN port to act as a passthrough port like many of our users already use on Polycom handsets. Having an extra Ethernet port for use can be very useful to connect printers or workstations since port availability may be limited. The LAN passthrough port is not PoE and will not power a connected device through the port.  Keep an eye out for information on our wiki on how to configure and use the new function.

Native Fax Interface with Lexmark
Soon with new updates, Lexmark brand printers with fax machine capability will be able to support digital faxing without an analog adapter. Most fax enabled Lexmark devices made after 2012 should be eligible for the update. NocTel expects to add in support for faxing with Lexmark devices and hopes to have technical documents available soon detailing applicable models and configuration. For customers with supported models and appropriate firmware versions, it may not be necessary to leverage an FMA to allow faxing through NocTel.

New Algo Paging Devices
NocTel officially supports and recommends Algo paging devices for users that need to update from an outdated analog system or those who want more integration without the use of an ATA or Adtran device to facilitate communication between your VoIP devices and service and legacy paging hardware. Algo showcased a new model of paging devices at the conference this year that may make great choices for school premises, government buildings, and large offices. The new model includes paging functionality, embedded digital clock, and programmable LED strobe lights. The added LEDs make it an excellent option for emergency notices adding visual cues to audio paging.

NocTel hopes to take much of what we learned and saw at the telecommunications conference to continue to grow NocTel's Hosted VoIP and Flow Contact Center further into the future. Look forward to future developments in our newsletter for more details and updates to come, and check out our how-to articles at noctel.com/help.

We also support several speaker types to fit most users' needs. The Algo 8180 or 8189 are great for interior spaces with wall and ceiling mounting options that offer superb audio clarity at high volumes, multicast functions, and power over Ethernet (PoE). For larger or outdoors areas the weatherproofed Algo 8186 is another excellent option. With Algo's new speaker combining paging, digital clock, and strobing LEDs soon to be released, our users will have even more options that can help improve your paging situation making communication and safety even easier.
