Building Better Connections

Helping You Stay Connected on the Go

NocTel has a powerful tool called NocTel Go which helps users be more mobile with their work communication. NocTel Go, our mobile softphone application for both iOS and Android, allows users to take NocTel Talk's features wherever they go.

NocTel Go extensions offer easy setup with QR code provisioning that can have your mobile softphone up and running in just a few minutes. Go extensions are even more useful and powerful with our new twinning feature. With twinning, Go phones can be linked to Polycom extensions already in your account, allowing them to ring together and share a voicemail box without requiring the need for additional hunt group configuration. Go extensions also allow you to make outbound calls from your mobile devices using your organization's phone numbers and caller ID name. This can be a huge benefit in keeping you and your team's cell phone numbers from being unnecessarily disseminated and presenting a unified caller ID name when your team reaches out to clients. Twinned extensions can also route to the same voicemail box, which helps reduce confusion and clutter of where a missed caller might have left their message.

NocTel has been proud to offer our EduGo promotion to educators during the current world health situation to help them during this difficult time. We have seen numerous success stories of school districts getting their teachers and staff quickly up and running with Go, allowing them to keep in touch with each other, their students, and parents. If you are an educator or know someone that is, have your Admin or Technology team check out the EduGo promotion information on our site at noctel.com/edugo.

While NocTel Go has been helping our education users, it can also help your business be more flexible and mobile, especially with so many people working from home. You can find general marketing information about NocTel Go, or technical information on our Go Knowledge Base space

As always, the NocTel support team is here to help if you have any questions about NocTel Go or any other products or features. You can reach support at support@noctel.com or call us at 503.764.4300.

ELIN Solves e911 Address Configuration for Large Campuses

If your organization spans multiple buildings and addresses, managing e911 addresses for VoIP devices can be a daunting task due to the mobility that VoIP affords users. While NocTel's control panel allows for easy managing of the e911 address assigned to an extension, if an extension moves locations without the phone system administrator being informed, the e911 address doesn't get updated. Your team can solve this issue by using ELIN on your networks.

ELIN or an Emergency Location Identification Numbers can be assigned to specific physical network switch ports on your campus. Once configured, if an extension moves to another building, the ELIN is updated automatically. NocTel allows the ELIN information set on your network to supersede the data stored in the control panel for the extension emergency number when a call is placed to emergency services.

If you decide that ELIN configuration should be implemented on your network, keep the following points in mind:

  • Each ELIN should be a distinct ten-digit phone number that appears in your NocTel account.
  • The e911 address listed for a phone number used as an ELIN should be updated and accurate as the address listed for the phone number in the control panel is what is uploaded to PSAP databases for emergency location.
  • The LLDP and LLDP-MED features must be enabled on switches.
  • ELIN should be used for specific postal addresses or buildings, not individual rooms.

If you are interested in implementing ELIN for your campus, check out our new KB article that covers ELIN basics and configurations for different switch vendors.
