More Improvements On the Way
June 2018

At NocTel, we are always trying to improve so that we can bring our customers the best in hosted VoIP services. We want to give our customer access to powerful tools, features and services, but also make sure they have the knowledge to get the most out of what NocTel has to offer. Creating NocTel's Knowledge Base was our first step in providing self-service access to information regarding how to effectively use NocTel's products and services.

With ease of use in mind, NocTel has begun working on phase two of empowering our users of all technical backgrounds; from first-timers to old pros. NocTel soon plans to roll out how-to video guides covering topics from essential functions of the control panel to advanced routing options and features. Keep an eye out for more updates regarding this development in future updates! If you have any suggestions on videos you would like to see, please contact us. Firmware Updates Are Making a Visible Change

Polycom often issues firmware updates for their devices to fix issues that mostly go unseen by the normal users. However, sometimes they do make visibly impacting changes. A recent update for the Polycom VVX-series phones that NocTel pushed out made a visual change to transfers. Now instead of seeing the dial screen or active call screen after pressing a transfer button, the screen now shows the lines view (shown above). This change was made to give users direct access to the speed dials on the lines screen. Dialing the extension number you want to transfer to will bring back the dial screen.

 
This Month in Communication History

On June 10, 1858, two ships headed out on a project that would put the first operational transatlantic cable in place. The cable used for telegraphs linked Valentia Bay in Ireland with Trinity Bay in Newfoundland. Although the cable fell silent about a month after its completion, the expedition proved a transatlantic cable was possible. The most famous message sent across this cable was between Queen Victoria and American President Buchanan. However, it was a simple military message telling troops to stay in place, that saved Britain £60,000, that showed the underlying power of the connection, and was the first significant step to the worldwide communication network we have today.

The countdown to the end of life for the line of Polycom SoundPoint IP phones is marching on. Polycom has already stopped manufacturing the SoundPoint IP line, but has promised to support the models until December 31, 2019. NocTel has also adopted this timeline and will support the IP series phones until the announced end of life date. It is common for manufacturers to raise awareness during the sunset period while also providing existing customers a window to replace or update their hardware.

While you still have time to enjoy your SoundPoint IP phones, we encourage all of our customers to consider the Polycom VVX Business Media Phone series, which replaces the SoundPoint IP series. The VVX Series offers a wide variety of improved functionality and a better user experience - check out the product specs on NocTel's website to compare the differences between VVX models and compared to the IP series handsets.
