Back to School Tools
Summer 2018

NocTel provides services for a variety of industries and different sectors. One of these is the education sector and with summer soon to start winding down, schools are gearing up for another year. With school staff in mind, we wanted to remind our users of some helpful features that might come in handy. While this newsletter is geared toward users in education, these tools and features can be handy to anyone!
Zeroizing a Extension
A new school year can bring changes in staff appointments and teaching positions. When people change positions, move classrooms, or move on to new roles; administration and IT staff are often tasked with cleaning up digital loose ends. Zeroizing is a useful feature of NocTel that can help when it comes to the repurposing phones in these situations. Zeroizing makes it easy for a user to return an extension to default settings without deleting and re-adding it to the account.

What zeroizing does:
  • Defaults all extension settings.
  • Deletes all voicemails and faxes owned by this extension (please exercise diligence in case there are any items that should be kept prior to zeroizing).
  • Deletes all recordings owned by this extension.
  • Clears speed dials set for this extension.
  • Resets the inbound behavior settings.
  • Removes the extension from all classes.
  • Removes the extension from all hunt groups.
The zeroize an extension feature can be accessed in the extension's permissions page in the control panel. A full article on zeroizing an extension can be found on the NocTel Support Knowledge Base.
Setting Up Voicemail

New and returning staff may have questions about setting up, making changes, and accessing their voicemail. Most users can press the dedicated voicemail button on their phone to access or by dialing *38. If voicemail is enabled but not yet set up, the system will guide the users in setting up their PIN and Greeting. Returning users can use option 7 once in the main voicemail menu for options.

A guide to enabling and setting up voicemail can be found on our online Knowledge Base.
Another Quick Tip

Another useful resource that may be helpful for returning and new staff are our Quick Reference Guides for various models of Polycom phones, which can be found on our Online Knowledge Base. These guides cover basic phone functions and features such as checking voicemail, placing calls on hold, and transferring calls. Head over to the Knowledge Base to check them out if you don't already have a copy or want to download a guide to print.

Often returning staff may need a little help in remembering their passwords and usually turn to IT for assistance. While password resets for services the organization uses could be handled by IT, these services typically have a self-service method of password recovery or reset.

NocTel has its own self-service password recovery: for any users that have forgotten their password, they can use our simple password reset tool accessible from the control panel login page. We even have a how-to guide on our Knowledge Base that walks you through using the reset tool to easily recover and reset a forgotten password.

Out Knowledge Base contains an ever growing amount of helpful how-to articles. This is a great first stop for when you or your staff have a simple question about NocTel feature or aren't fully certain of configuration procedures.
From the NocTel team to all the teachers, IT support teams, and school staff that support our schools; thank you for all the hard work you do for our schools and students! We hope you have a great year!
