COLD FORMED

Cold heading is basically putting metal in a die and hammering it and is different to hot forging where the metal is heated before (hammering) forming. Cold heading and other methods of cold forming cause the metal to deform at room temperature.

Modern cold-forming machines, also called headers or parts formers, provide from one to seven die stations, opposite a similar number of punches mounted on a slide, which frequently moves horizontally. The method used for making bolts or screws is the one-die, two-blow header. This has one die, which is the diameter of the shank of the bolt or screw being formed. The material in the die is struck with two different punches, one after the other. There is a limit to how much you can deform the metal with a single blow; two or more hits are necessary to create the correct shape of the bolt head.

BRIGHT TURNED

Bar turned Bright fasteners have moved from the 19th and into the 21st century with the introduction of CNC machines capable of producing turned product with speed. There are still fastener companies turning fasteners on lathes, meeting demand for very low volume. CNC machines are capable of rapidly producing intricate turned parts by a mixure of Screwing,Turning, Milling and Grinding.

Bright turned fasteners are still required when:

Cold forging volumes are too high.

Hot forging scale is not acceptable.

Where extra precision is required.

If the fastener is too large for forging or forming.

Where special dimensions or tolerances are required

When someone forgot to update the 19th century drawing.

Fastener product specific information, fastener drawings and relevant fastener data, marketed from one of the most extensive fastener supply and fastening user databases. Fastener source of supply, specific to fastener products and fastener supply categories.
Comprehensive database of all fastener, fixings and fastenings data, fastener information, related fastener dimensional tables and detailed drawings of fasteners. Fastener standards and fastener non standards, every piece of fastener data you will need. Fastener companies are adding their own unique fastener products to the fastener data website, the fastener site is growing daily. Fasteners consist of hexagon Bolts and bolts with various heads, Socket head screws Allen type, a diverse range of screws and the washers and nuts to go with them. Threads range from BSF British standard fine thread and BSW British standard Whitworth to American UNC and UNF threads; not to forget Metric threads in coarse, fine and extra fine threads. Fasteners are produced by cold forging, hot forging and bright turning. fasteners are not restricted to threaded bolts and screw, they extend to rivets, circlips, dowels and other pins.
