MARINE and SHIPBUILDING
J Cooke providing fastener products for marine applications and manufacturing materials suitable for saltwater environments; stainless steel in both A2 and A4 also Brass. Fastener coating also plays a part. Modern zinc flake and plastic coatings, finishes with high salt spray performance are complemented by the traditional Cadmium coating.

  • ‘Harsh’ Environments – you may require 316 Stainless Steel or perhaps Titanium.
Either way, if it’s Threaded Inserts your choice of fastening solution then Tappex may have the answer
  • Titanium Self-Threading Inserts (New) – ETP58
  • Proven Tappex Trisert-3 Self Threading inserts in 303 & 316 grades of Stainless Steel – ETP59

GALVANIC CORROSION

Exotic Fasteners are manufactured using exotic materials and alloys to produce Superior Bolts and Nuts and a variety of high-performance fasteners. Fasteners can be produced by hot forging and CNC precision machining from exotic materials, producing fasteners of high integrity.

Fastener product manufacturing ranges include Hexagon Head Bolts, Socket Head Capscrews (Allen screws), Engineers Studs, Hexagon Nuts, Cup Square Bolts, Nib Bolts, Nuts and other specialised fasteners.

These unusual bolts and nuts are designed to fasten materials that need to perform in extreme circumstances. Pressure extremes, and resistant to corrosion are only two of many reasons to have a fastener specially produced.

Class  A2    USA Grade  304

Grade A2 is an Austenitic grade of stainless steel, it has excellent resistance to atmospheric corrosion except in severe marine and industrial environments.

Oxidation resistance is satisfactory for use up to 850ºC. Resistance to nitric acid and other oxidising chemicals is excellent.

Resistance to other mineral and organic acids is good within limits of temperature and concentration. Generally unsuitable for solutions of hydrochloric acid and chlorides, particularly if evaporation at high temperatures occurs.

This grade can be described as non-magnetic except when heavily cold worked. It is not hardenable by heat treatment, but is greatly strengthened by cold working. High strength and toughness at sub-zero temperatures down to minus 250ºC.

Significant stress relaxation above 575ºC.

Applications

Civil and chemical engineering food processing, medical and brewing equipment and many types of domestic appliances, Cryogenic equipment, special purpose building and masonry fixings.

Class  A4    USA Grade  316  F593

Grade A4 is also an Austenitic grade of stainless steel, it has a higher corrosion resistance than A2 grade in many chemical environments, including contact with dilute sulphuric acid, and acetic acid over a wide range of temperature and concentration. Resistance to atmospheric staining and pitting in industrial and urban areas, and also is suitable for marine conditions but not immersed in sea water.

Oxidation resistance is satisfactory for use up to 800ºC. Resistance to nitric acid and other oxidising chemicals is excellent. Resistance to other mineral and organic acids is good within certain limits of temperature and concentration. Generally unsuitable for solutions of hydrochloric acid and chlorides, particularly if evaporation at high temperatures occurs. Satisfactory oxidation resistance up to 800ºC.

Significant stress relaxation above 600ºC.

Applications

Fasteners for boat deck fittings, chemical plant, swimming pools, dye vats, fertiliser, rayon and sewage treatment plants. Dairy equipment. Medical sterilising equipment.
