What Are the Deacons Doing?
The Deacons would like to share with the congregation how they have been serving God through First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood and the Kirkwood Community and beyond in the August and September.
The Bereavement Committee has ushered and hosted receptions at 2 services in August and 2 more services are planned in September. If any church members are interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Julie Jackson at putjackson1@att.net
The Community Care Committee has continued to collect and deliver food weekly donated by the congregation to KirkCare. Please consider picking up a donation bag and menu at the KirkCare station near the Welcome Desk, as the need for food continues to be great.
The Fall Red Cross Drive will be held on
Friday, Oct. 28 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter FirstPresKirkwood or call 1-800-733-2767 to schedule an appointment.
The Crisis Care Committee donated money for rental assistance in cooperation with Greentree Church and St. Vincent DePaul.
The Homebound Committee sent cards to homebound members in the month of August. They are preparing for the Advent Bag ministry in November.
The Hospital Care Committee, while unable to visit folks in person, has been making phone calls and sending cards to members who have been hospitalized.
In addition:
• We have contributed financially to Meacham Park Neighborhood Association to support the Back To School Rally and Backpack Giveaway.
• We hosted a speaker who came to the United States over 30 years ago from Ukraine. Her son felt compelled to fight in the current war. She shared information on the current conditions there, some history regarding the war, and the strain of her son fighting in the war. In response, the Deacons assured her we will continue to lift up her family in our prayers.
• We hosted 2 speakers to update us on Kwasha-Kids of Zambia., a primary school (grades 1-9) now in its 10th year of operation. The school has outgrown its current building and the parents and community are in the process of building additional space, including making their own bricks. A financial contribution was given to cover costs for desk, window and door repair of the
current building.
