Erin Bishop, the Director of the Center for Christian Spirituality, is away on maternity leave until early January.  In the meantime, CCS is pleased to co-sponsor and update you about the following events on campus hosted by the USD Harpst Center for Catholic Thought and Culture.  A full list of CCS programs will be announced in the spring.

Saint Mother Teresa: A Musical Celebration in Honor of Her Canonization

All are welcome to join a special musical celebration to honor the canonization of Saint Mother Teresa. The world premier of Poorest of the Poor: Music for Mother Teresa, composed by Dr. Thomas Bough of Northern Illinois University, will be performed by the USD Wind Ensemble, Dr. Jeffrey Malecki, conductor, along with the USD Chorale Scholars, Dr. Emilie Amrein, conductor.

"Valuing Water” with Dr. Christiana Peppard

“Reclaiming Our National Politics” with Most Rev. Robert W. McElroy, Bishop of San Diego

Just days before the presidential election, the Bishop of San Diego, the Most Reverend Robert W. McElroy, will address the troubling political climate in the U.S., contrasting it with the uplifting vision of politics that Pope Francis presented in his recent address to Congress. Urging an eschewal of the angry, destructive and tribal elements of our current political culture, Bishop McElroy will emphasize the importance of civic virtue, arguing that we must reclaim our national politics for the protection of the dignity of the human person and the advancement of the common good.

"What is Pope Francis Doing to the Church?" With Archbishop Paul-André Durocher

Lessons and Carols

Every year, the Frances G. Harpst Center for Catholic Thought and Culture invites the campus community and the public at large to gather in Founders Chapel to enjoy Lessons and Carols, a Christmas celebration that dates back well over 100 years and is followed around the world in a multitude of places.
Through poignant readings of the Old and New Testaments, interspersed with beautiful music and carols, the congregation is invited to reflect on the birth of Jesus in the context of its significance in salvation history.

CCS is delighted to be hosting Days of Prayer and Reflection in the fall for the following groups:
  • School Teachers from Catholic Schools in San Diego
    “Finding Spiritual Balance in Off-Kilter Times”
  • Catechists from the Diocese of San Diego
    “Prayer in the Franciscan Tradition”
  • Youth Ministers from the Diocese of San Diego
    “Preparing for God’s Immense Love"
If you are interested in having a Day of Prayer and Reflection for your group on the beautiful campus of USD, please contact us!
Have an idea for a speaker or event? 
We welcome your suggestions on topics of importance to you, topics pertaining to the spiritual development of peoples and that meet the mission of the Center. We seek to program for the spiritual journey based on the needs and desires of our community at large.

Special Event Parking

While parking on campus, a valid USD permit must be displayed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visitor permits may be obtained from the west entrance kiosk for single-day events only. Visitors are allowed to park in the West Parking Structure and Lot, and the West Gravel Lot.

Please refrain from parking on the main campus.
Additionally, please ensure that the permit is fully displayed with the date visible at all times in your vehicle.

For events that take place on multiple days, guests will need to purchase a parking permit at $5/day or $25/week.

  • Complimentary Visitor permits are available for guests who intend to be on campus for one day.

Effective September 1, 2016, guests must pay to park either in the Mission Parking Structure or West Parking Structure/Lot. Guests may also pre-purchase parking permits from the Parking Services Website at the rate of $8/day or $40/week.
