The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden

Spring 2015

Almost the end of June - where has the time gone?! We've had a very busy few months here at the Sculpture Garden, so apologies for the delay in the first of this year's newsletters.

Our biggest news is that after 32 years of running the Sculpture Garden Hannah Peschar has decided to semi-retire at the end of the year. BUT *drum-roll please* we are thrilled to announce that the Sculpture Garden will not be closing. After 6 years under Hannah's wing, Associate Curator Vikki Leedham will be taking over the running of the gallery, and will be curating next year's exhibition. Hannah will still be around, and she will be acting as consultant - both here at the Garden and freelance to new ventures.

Fear not - things will not be changing too drastically. We will still be hosting a 6 month exhibition, opening first weekend in May until the end of October, and we will continue to show the same high quality pieces of art within the Garden. Of course, some things are bound to change but that's the nature of exhibiting art.

We are all very excited for this new chapter at the Garden!

A blast from the past - Sean Henry, who first exhibited with Hannah many years ago, is showing 'Man with Potential Selves' alongside one of the many ponds.

New to the Garden this year - Sam Shendi's unusual, graphic and fun sculptures make a real impact against the textures of green.

The exhibition is looking fantastic this year - we have a mixture of familiar names, including some artists that Hannah exhibited at the start of their careers, and some exciting new additions to the garden that are certainly catching visitors' attention!

The middle of January saw the pond emptied and dug deeper.

The mud that had been spread over the lawn was still very soft in April, as this poor digger discovered!

Over the winter we had a touch of landscaping done. The pond next to the main lawn was dredged to clear years of muck and fallen leaves, and so Anthony Paul used this opportunity to build up the dykes, and level the lawn area. It took several months (and three stuck diggers!) but the area has finally recovered, the grass has regrown and we are able to place work on the lawn again.

March - we feared it would never dry out, but some of the plants had already fought their way through the mud.

June - the lawn has almost fully regrown, and we have placed two new pieces in the area.

The Sculpture Garden is open for the Summer Season until the end of October.

We are open Fridays & Saturday 11am to 6pm, Sundays & Bank Holiday Mondays 2pm - 5pm. We open Tuesdays to Thursdays for appointments for groups of 4 or more adults, group visits and school parties.

We hope to see you over the Summer!
