Well it seems that we are into ‘season’ already with enquiries and options all picking up nicely. If you haven’t heard from us yet for a possible shoot, don’t be too despondent as season is just starting and we are hoping for a much better season this year. The water crisis and Cape Town calling D-Day was catastrophic for both the film industry and tourism.
The ’talk’ so far is positive ….. the weak Rand is on our side, and despite the clients saying that Cape Town was becoming too expensive as we were competing with new emerging markets such as Bulgaria & Croatia, the 1st class crew, facilities, producers, talent and of course locations are hard to match.
F/LM CAPE TOWN – City initiative
What’s even better though, is that the City acknowledged that they had a massive role to play in what was reportedly a 40% drop in the commercials business last season. Credit to them in that they have now put together a ‘task team’ made up of all the industry representatives (we were there, representing NALA which is the National Association of Location Agents).
The City of Cape Town is working with the local film and media industry to position Cape Town as the film and media hub of Africa. The only way the industry will achieve this is by all working together to promote the city, making it more film friendly, ensuring we practice fair business and fair rates, commit to transforming the industry and working in a water-wise and sustainable manner.
The F/LM CAPE TOWN initiative will have a website and additional promotional activities that will look to market the destination to an international audience and locally to Cape Town residents. It is up to the whole industry to work together to achieve the full potential Cape Town has to offer the film and media industry.
New App for Location Owners to manage your Options & Bookings!
We at AS manage all your options / availability on a platform called YouMe&Co. We have been using this platform for as long as we can remember and it is extremely user friendly, reliable and makes managing all our options and bookings a breeze. We have been working with YouMe&Co to develop a “Location Owner App” which is a communication and scheduling tool between us and our location owners. The benefits to us introducing this App for management with our location owners are as follows:-
You will receive push notifications (similar to Whatsapp) of all options and bookings loaded for your location
We can send you detailed push notifications of Recce’s, with details of who, when, etc
Each home owner will subscribe to YouMe&Co directly and we have managed to negotiate a special rate for AS locations with a fee (regardless of how many locations you own) of R200 / month for 6 months and we won’t charge you anything in the winter months.
Please get in touch with us if you are keen to sign up. We highly encourage it as it will make correspondence with you on one platform seamless, and you at all times can have access to your calendar and who is holding options.
NEW! Virtual Tours and ‘Doll House’ 3D models of your locations
Talk is that international clients are looking for more in terms of presentation of locations and want to be able to do a ‘walk through’ virtual tour of their possible shortlist. This technology is fairly new but is fast becoming standard in the US and UK.
If you want your location to stand out from the crowd, please get in touch for all the pricing options. We are busy negotiating with a couple of firms for the best offer with this Matterport technology.
See a sample Virtual Tour showcase with ‘doll house’ 3D model of one of our locations here:
Please remember to get in touch if your location has changed and we need to organize a re-shoot.
We wish you all a great season.
