Teen Novel to Read: Listen to author Ruta Sepetys talk about I Must Betray You
Well known YA author Ruta Sepetys has written many well researched, engaging historical fiction books for teens. Some have been set in Europe during WWII (Salt to the Sea) or Spain (The Fountains of Silence).

Her new Young Adult novel, I Must Betray You, is about Romania and what it is like for a teen to live in a totalitarian state where you cannot trust even those closest to you. After reading it, you will think it is some horrible dystopian novel except that it all really happened the way Sepetys describes it. It is heartbreaking, compelling and hard to believe all at the same time.

The Bookmarked podcast interview reveals what her process is for writing these searing historical fiction books and why she gravitates to these subject. Well worth a listen.
