We received a wonderful Thank You letter from a patron. The libraries are still here for you, and can answer your questions, help you find resources, and even assist with translations.

Dear Cedar Mill Library and Marta,

I wanted to send a thank you to the library and Marta in particular. Recently my cousin was researching her family tree and spent months trying to track down a birth record from 1876. When she finally got the long awaited document, her excitement turned to disappointment when she realized that she would not be able to read the document from Konstantynow Lodzki, Poland. She doesn’t read Polish nor does anyone in our families. She was chatting me with about this when I blurted out, “There’s a librarian at Cedar Mill Library that speaks Polish.” I quickly reached out sending the hard to read photo of the document in question. A reply came almost immediately from Marta saying the document was actually written in Russian. I almost cried when Marta said she could probably still translate it. Less than a day later we had the translation. My cousin was able to get the names of the birth mother, father, and others present for the birth of her ancestor Natalia. I am constantly amazed at the services and help the library provides, even during times when librarians are working from home.
