Fall for a lake cruise

Get out and view northern Idaho's brilliant fall colors while enjoying an informative journey with the arrival of autumn cruises aboard the Shawnodese, operated by Lake Pend Oreille Cruises. A fascinating lineup of fall cruises get started mid-September, and cruise options include the Hope Islands and Eagle Watching Tour, a Clark Fork Delta Cruise, and the 3G Tour (Green Bay to Garfield Bay to Green Monarchs). Cruises depart from Kramer Marina, 46820 Highway 200 in East Hope, and reservations are required by calling 208-255-LAKE.

Plan a late-summer hike

Beautiful season to head outdoors

Why not? It's about the best time of year for a hike in the high country ... still warm, usually dry, bugs are gone. Notable hikes to consider would be the trails at Schweitzer Mountain Resort, or head up Upper Pack River to Harrison Lake, Beehive Lake, or Chimney Rock. Better yet, go for the signature hike up to Scotchman Peak to commune with the goats (the Scotchman Trail is photographed above, courtesy of Phil Hough.) The live music scene is chillin' in Sandpoint

Sandpoint keeps the good times rolling into early fall with a big-city music scene that just keeps getting better. Just about any night of the week, or weekend, you can find fabulous live music at a number of eateries, pubs, breweries, and downtown winery. For instance, the Good Co (pictured, right) is a rare, live electro swing band based out of Seattle who performs Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Heartwood Center. Good Co's unique sound combines the era of underground speakeasies with the funky beats, illicit booze, jitterbugging flappers, and the electric sound of today's dance music. Get a full rundown of live music on the Visit Sandpoint entertainment calendar»
