Nature's winter outings

It's a peaceful time to head outside

Our northern Idaho forests, lakes, and rivers are quiet now, with the hush of snow and the natural slowing down of nature's creatures. It's a wonderful time to take a hike along some of the lower-elevation trails, or discover a hobby such as cross-country skiing. Of particular note this month of December is the 115th annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count - a gathering hosted by the Audubon Society that spends the day observing and counting birds in our area, happening Dec. 21. All are invited to join, and the day is mostly spent driving, with some outdoor walking. Group will meet at 6:30 a.m. at 5th Avenue Restaurant. Ring in the new decade at a fabulous party!

It's time to celebrate 2020, so make it a night to remember with the Angels Over Sandpoint New Year's Eve Party at The Hive in downtown Sandpoint Dec. 31. Presented by KPND and Dig Beats Productions, the party features San Francisco's Collectivity on stage performing their high-energy blend of jazz, funk, and psychedelic soul. The ensemble of world-class musicians bring the perfect vibe to usher in the new decade ... and with confetti cannons and a balloon drop to top it all off, this is not a New Year's Eve show you won't want to miss! Tickets available online; ages 21-plus; proceeds from the party benefit Angels Over Sandpoint and their charitable good deeds in the community.
