Holiday season - and ski season - is upon us!

Countdown to skiing!

Schweitzer set to open Nov. 27

Snow has already been flying at Schweitzer Mountain Resort, stoking excitement among skiers and boarders who are ready to hit the slopes (as well as Annie, pictured above, one of Schweitzer's avalanche rescue dogs!). Opening day is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 27 (weather permitting!) - but there is an important update to how day tickets are being sold due to coronavirus safety protocols. Day lift tickets will go on sale starting Monday, Nov. 9 … but once a day is sold out, it’s sold out! However, lodging guests who stay at Schweitzer who book through Schweitzer.com will have guaranteed access to purchase lift tickets. Get all the info on the all-new Schweitzer.com.

Lodging, attractions, more!

A shopping experience

While the online rush for presents is bigger than ever this year, Sandpoint's merchants are gussied up and ready to offer shoppers that one-of-a-kind holiday shopping experience you can't find on a computer screen. Downtown stores have an exceptional selection of gifts as well as family-friendly events on tap. And mark your calendar for the annual Christmas Fair at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, Nov. 21-22 - it's a shopping tradition for folks looking to give unique artisan gifts. Wrap up your day with a glass of wine at the Pend d'Oreille Winery (pictured here), or other fine restaurants and breweries.

Outside we go!

North Idaho's late fall season can be moody, delivering bluebird-sky days, drizzly rain, and unexpected snowstorms. But that's what good outdoor gear is for, right? Embrace the fickle weather with fun opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors! Take a hike in the nearby Pine Street Woods, with multi-use trails for all levels. Click the link for map info. Another outdoor experience is the annual K&K Thanksgiving Fishing Derby happening Nov. 21-25, and Nov. 27-29. This is Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club's annual fall fishing contest, and it's a memorable adventure for the entire family. Put on your long johns and come join the fun on Lake Pend Oreille!

Light up the season with hometown cheer

Sandpoint's annual tradition, the annual Downtown Tree Lighting, is a scene straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movie ... there are carolers and live music, charming performances from local students, and winter treats for all! The fun event is held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, in Jeff Jones Towne Square. And of course, Santa caps off the night by arriving on a fire truck to hear each child's Christmas wish. Free and open to the public; sponsored by Creations, the Sandpoint Fire Department and Sandpoint Police Department, plus local community members and businesses.

Idaho moved back to Stage Three

Some restrictions are now in place

As we continue to navigate the coronavirus, Idaho's Gov. Brad Little moved the state back to Stage Three in late October. For the time being, indoor gatherings are limited to 50 people or less, and outdoor gatherings are limited to 25 percent capacity. In addition, large venues such as sporting venues with 50 or more people must obtain approval from their local public health district. Bars, restaurants, and nightclubs can operate with seating only, and nightclubs can only operate as a bar.
