Fall ... a fabulous season!

Colors at their peak in North Idaho

Enjoy nature's color show in the Sandpoint area as incredible autumn colors take over the local landscape. Stroll along the Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail, above, right in town. Or head up into the snow-dusted mountains for a late-season hike. You can also take a driving tour on the Pend Oreille Scenic Byway, named one of North Idaho's prettiest fall drives as takes in the sights and colors heading through Hope and Clark Fork. Dare to be scared

Roaming monsters and rides in the dark bring terrifying thrills as Silverwood Theme Park transforms into Scarywood, starting Oct. 3 and continuing most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 2. It's been 10 years since Scarywood opened - so get ready as the theme park takes the next 10 years to a new level! As seen on Travel Channel's "Halloween's Scariest Thrills," Scarywood has five haunted attractions and seven scare zones. Scarywood is located just 30 minutes south of Sandpoint on Highway 95 in Athol.

First snow at Schweitzer

Resort looks forward to season

A late-September storm brought the first snow to Schweitzer Mountain Resort (photo above taken Oct. 1), which is stoking the excitement for the season ahead. And there are lots of things to look forward to, most notably the new chairlifts - Cedar Park Express and Colburn Triple - that replaced Snow Ghost. Crews are finishing up work, and skiers and snowboarders will be excited to check it all out. In addition, lodging is starting to book up. If you're thinking about a winter getaway, consider a stay in the Selkirk Lodge which includes breakfast for everyone in the room, plus kids 6 and under ski free!

Sandpoint's breweries kick it up in October

Now boasting four breweries, Sandpoint's the perfect place for beer lovers to relax with a cold one. MickDuff's Beer Hall, Matchwood Brewing, and Utara Brewing are within a few downtown blocks from each other, and Laughing Dog Brewing is a quick jaunt north in Ponderay just off of Highway 200. In addition, there's a lot of live music events lined up - check 'em all out, plus tons of other October events, on the jam-packed Visit Sandpoint Entertainment Calendar.
