Summertime fun continues in Sandpoint!

5 ways to social distance

Sandpoint summers make it easy!

Social distancing can be downright enjoyable in Sandpoint. That's because we have tons of outdoor space and lots of ways to explore it all! Check out our top 5 list of things to do that don't require rubbing elbows (or shaking hands for that matter)!
1. Horseback riding at Mountain Horse Adventures on Schweitzer Mountain Resort
2. Paddleboarding on Lake Pend Oreille. It requires few skills and is a great balancing workout!
3. Huckleberry picking (yep, they're ready!)
4. Hiking Scotchman Peak or any of another 200+ terrific trails nearby.
5. Cruising the lake aboard the Shawnodese, operated by Lake Pend Oreille Cruises
* Note: Please bring masks when you visit Sandpoint, as we do have some local businesses that require them. Thanks!

Get artsy in Sandpoint!

It's an art-filled weekend when the Pend Oreille Arts Council holds their two-day Arts and Crafts Fair in downtown Sandpoint (at Second Avenue and Main Street) Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9. Elements of the fair include artist booths, food vendors, and a youth art arena. Artwork exhibited includes sculpture, ceramics, metal, fiber, photography, paintings, mixed media, wood, crafts, and more. All proceeds go directly to support POAC's programs in visual and performing arts, and art education for the benefit of our community. Everyone is welcome - so come out and shop!

Go fish

Drop a line in the water and enjoy!

Take to the cool waters of Lake Pend Oreille to not only make your escape but to also snag a few prized fish! Anglers are reporting success with kokanee, bass and more. If you're unsure of where to start, check out the Idaho Fish and Game website. For another way to enjoy an on-the-water adventure, try a guided fly fishing trip on the Kootenai River with LongDrift Outfitters (that's their photo, above). Get more details on their website.

Take a cooking break - enjoy a meal outdoors!

Quick, while summer's gorgeous weather is still luring us outdoors (and heating up our kitchens), take advantage of the splendid patio and deck seating at quite a few of Sandpoint's restaurants. Most dining establishments here are open, with well-spaced seating and safety protocols in place. A few noteworthy restaurants with wonderful outdoor seating include:

  • The Floating Restaurant in Hope. This unique gem offers majestic views plus plenty of boat dock parking (as well as car parking). Pictured above is the view from the well-shaded on-the-dock seating. The delicious gourmet menu is the true draw, with a full bar menu to round out the experience.
  • Forty-One South in Sagle. The water views, especially at sunset, always wow diners. And the restaurant's innovative cuisine, full bar, and extensive wine list are not to be missed.
  • The Idaho Club outside of Sandpoint. The new clubhouse restaurant features outside seating on the deck overlooking the golf course and the Pack River. It's an all-new experience this summer, and folks are loving the new facility and also the delicious food. All are welcome!

These are just a few of the many restaurant options. For more to try in Sandpoint, visit our Dining Page.
