Snow at Schweitzer!

It won't be long now ...

A few inches of white stuff at Schweitzer Mountain Resort (pictured here Oct. 31) has skiers buzzing about the upcoming season, which is really just around the corner. Schweitzer folks say the projected opening date is Friday, Nov. 30 ... "but we always love to get open right after Thanksgiving, weather permitting!" In the meantime, the resort made some spiffy improvements over the summer: expanding the beginner "Magic Carpet" conveyor lift, installing a panoramic webcam at the summit (check it out at Schweitzer.com), improving Wi-Fi around the mountain, plus a new bus service took over the shuttle between the Red Barn parking lot at the base and the resort - and it's free for everyone!

Double the breweries

Additions put Sandpoint on map

Over the past few months, Sandpoint has welcomed two new breweries to town - Utara Brewing at 214 Pine St., and Matchwood Brewing Co. at 513 Oak St. Both breweries are housed in renovated buildings, with their own unique flair. Utara is a British-style ale and curry house that has four to five core beers on tap; they serve Indian-inspired appetizers with plans to add lunches by Thanksgiving. Matchwood occupies a sprawling industrial building in the Granary Arts District, and serves six of their beers on tap; food options include pasties, burgers, and more. As these two join longtime breweries MickDuff's Brewing and Laughing Dog Brewing, Sandpoint rises up as a "beer town" destination!
