Springtime offers a variety of outdoor adventures!

Ready, let's hike!

Hit trails now for early-season adventures

Spring in North Idaho has a special excitement to it - beckoning us outside after a long winter with lower elevation snow-free trails to explore. Our favorites this time of year include the Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail right in town that's easy and flat, the Pine Street Woods just west of downtown, and the popular Gold Hill Trail in Sagle that requires a bit more exertion - but the views at the top are phenomenal. Pictured above is a recent spring outing off the Sunnyside Peninsula. Get the lowdown on where to go and how to get there on the Visit Sandpoint Spring Hiking page.

Silverwood gearing up

Excitement is sky-high for Silverwood Theme Park's upcoming season, with the park gates opening May 1. The park's all-new single-rail coaster Stunt Pilot (pictured above) is the star of the show, featuring an experience that includes hairpin turns, aerobatic maneuvers, and three inversions as the coaster speeds through heart-stopping obstacles before returning back to the hanger. To get in on the early season savings, there are special weekend deals during the month of May to check out at The park is 30 minutes south of Sandpoint.

Get those last turns in

Schweitzer's winter season is wrapping up April 11, which gives skiers and boarders just a few more days to get in a few final turns. Coverage is still excellent with 92" at the summit (as of April 1). Plus if you're a season pass holder, check out the Passholder Appreciation Weekend deals. Cheers to an excellent season!

Fish on! Derby starts April 24

It's spring in North Idaho, and that means one big thing for anglers - the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club's annual Spring Fishing Derby. This year's event kicks off April 24 and continues through May 2. With over $22,750 in cash and prizes, it's a lucrative venture for adults and kids alike (not to mention excellent bragging rights)! To get a list of ticket outlets, plus more information, visit the LPOIC website or head over to the club's Facebook page.
Another on-the-water experience to check out in the region is a guided fly fishing trip with Long Drift Outfitters on the Kootenai River. Visit their website for reservations and more information.

Idaho remains in Stage 3 reopening

The State of Idaho currently remains in Stage 3 of Reopening. The guidelines basically allow gatherings of up to 50 people. Gov. Brad Little continues to urge residents and visitors to stay vigilant in working to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Get the very latest information on the pandemic locally at our community COVID-19 Update page.
