Hello From My Studio!

It's been a busy time in my corner of the woods - how about you? I've been beavering away to create some new artwork ahead of a couple of shows. Take a peek at how I'm making my new Belgium Posy print.

The Peranakan Museum Singapore has invited me to hold some special workshops there this month. It's been fun to teach in Sarong Kebaya and make the oh-so-necessary shopping trips to Katong and Arab Street. I've also published my first blog about Peranakan culture and now have an excuse to see more favourite spots around town!

I'm also excited that the work of Dutch graphic artist and printmaker M.S.Escher is on show at the ArtScience Museum. I hope you can come on an excursion with me in November and check it out! Details below.

ARTWORK - BELGIUM POSY
A work in progress - the design for this Japanese woodblock print was inspired by a heritage tile from Belgium. I recently found this beauty and other unusual tiles in a temple set up by my Hokkien great-great grandfather and others in Singapore. Read More

COMMUNITY WORKSHOP - SILVER ARTS FESTIVAL
I was approached to teach linocut printing to senior members of the community last month as part of the Silver Arts Festival 2016. It was a privilege to spend time with different members of the community and help them get the hang of linocut printing. It was the first time for many to take an art class, and we had a really enjoyable afternoon together. Read Now

BLOG - WHO ARE THE PERANAKANS?
Spicy dishes, tropical coloured outfits and grand shophouses - the Peranakan Chinese feature frequently in Singapore tourism brochures but their true identity still remains mysterious to many. My research into my father’s background has helped me to discover that this intriguing culture extends well beyond just prawn paste and beaded slippers. So who are these Chinese-looking people with unique tastes influenced by Chinese, Malay and European elements? Read More
