Good morning ladies!
Today's scripture and lesson is inspired from a sermon by Dr. Shane Wall about enjoying God.
Today's scripure is: Job 22:25-26
And make the Almighty your gold and [the Lord] your precious silver treasure, (25)
Then you will have delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God." (26)
Today, let's continue to focus on delighting in God by focusing on the word "delight" in verse 26.
How to Read this Scripture:
After meditation and asking God questions about the scripture, I decided to dig deeper by doing a topical search.
As we learned Monday, my topical search let me know that God sees delight in the following ways. When I delight in God, He is my:
2) Source of Joy
I want you to slowly read verse 26 again and ask God, "Dad, do I delight in You? Are you my only source of joy?"
This scripture is basically instructing us how to delight, or have joy, in God.
As I shared with you all in Monday's email, I recently realized that I had lost my delight and joy for God.
How did I get my joy for God back again? Well, I followed the instructions in this scripture.
In your own time, I encourage you to meditate on verse 24 of this scripture for a deeper understanding of these instructions.
Here's what I did…
To make God your delight, you must:
1) Identify whatever you delight in more than Him
2) Think of that thing as nothing compared to Him.
What or who do you enjoy spending time with more than God?
Now, think of that thing as nothing compared to God.
I made the mistake of enjoying time with my boyfriend over my time with God.
I failed to realize that it was God who gave me the boyfriend, my ability to spend time with him, and my life.
I had put more value into the gifts over the Giver.
What has God given you that you've placed above Him?
The only way you'll learn to replace that space with God is by following the 2 step instructions above and by spending more time with Him.
With that being said, I have a challenge for you all that I believe will help you all delight in God.
This week, I'd like you to spend at least one hour or more of uninterrupted prayer time with God.
No scriptures during this time. No cell phones. No emails. Just hanging out with God.
You'll never learn to enjoy God's company if you don't spend genuine, lasting, time with Him.
Think about your best friend. You wouldn't be best friends with her/him if they were always coming to you asking for things.
Yet, that's how we treat God. We see Him as a bank.
Then, we wonder why it's so difficult to just see Him as an enjoyable, loving Father.
This week…let's have fun with God! Let's just enjoy His company.
