Having been previously awarded £75,000 from the LBRuT Community Fund to refurbish the Bungalow adjacent to St Mary's School, since February the builders have been busy getting the site ready in time for the start of the summer term... and finally we are in!

We opened the doors on Friday 3 May and feedback from our young people and volunteers has been great. Everyone is enjoying being together again on one site, making use of the new venue and the wonderful outdoor facilities at the school.

There is still lots to do to furnish and personalise the building but the young people have already made a great start by planting sunflowers, painting stones and decorating mugs as well as undertaking a wonderful spray art project where they have been painting words representing the club’s values.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for our project to enable this to happen and for the Council contractors who have partnered with us to do the work.

Jack Petchey Success

Our Young Leaders continue to go from strength to strength. These 15 and 16 year olds help set up and pack down the club, lead activities and generally motivate and assist the younger members. They are excellent role models. Last term the young people voted for two of them, Christian and James, to receive a Jack Petchey Achievement award in recognition of the outstanding contribution they have made to the club. Both boys have been fantastic young leaders since they started last summer and it has been  great to see them use their individual talents to plan and lead various activities such as cardboard forts, soap carving, torch making, Christmas decorations and making slime. As well as receiving a certificate and medallion, Christian and James each get to decide how a £250 grant to the club should be spent. Well done Christian and James!
