Cows in Sausalito? - The history of dairy farming in southern Marin
Thursday, October 25 at 7 pm; Admission is free.
In the late 1800’s, Marin was the Bay Area’s major supplier of dairy products, and cows were often seen on the streets of Sausalito and grazing on the surrounding hillsides. Into the 1950's, over 40 dairies were active in southern Marin alone, all of them operated by Portuguese immigrants from the Azores and their descendants. Today almost no trace of them remains.
Join us for an evening with local historian Mike Moyle and learn about the history of these dairies and their contribution to Sausalito.
