AROUND THE TABLE AT DRIVER'S
Houseboat history in songs and stories - an evening with Larry Clinton and Joe Tate
Wednesday, August 28 at 7 pm; Admission is free with your RSVP.
From Victorian-era arks to million-dollar floating palaces, people have been living on Richardson’s Bay for over a century. Historian Larry Clinton will share stories about this legendary community, and musician Joe Tate will perform some of his favorite salty songs.
Larry Clinton is past president of the Sausalito Historical Society and writes a history column for MarinScope. He is co-director of the Floating Homes Open House tour scheduled for Saturday, September 14 this year. Joe Tate is the former leader of the Redlegs, a sort of pirate rock n’ roll band that formed in the Sausalito houseboat colony during the late sixties.
Lindsay Ott came to the Bay Area in 2013 with her young son and a background in organic farming and midwifery. She understood a new mother’s needs and fused her passions into postpartum nutrition. In her quest to find kindred spirits, Lindsay contacted Jane Lin, owner of Mama Tong. Jane trained Lindsay in Chinese postpartum soups, indicating that she was ready to move on. Lindsay purchased the business and relaunched Mama Tong using organic ingredients and the highest quality Chinese herbs. ‘Tong’ means soup in Chinese!
The name Aedan comes from two Kanji characters: 叡 means wisdom, and 伝 means hand down from generation to generation. Founder Mariko Grady creates small batch ferments using the knowledge passed down from her grandfather’s miso business and her mother’s home recipes. Using traditional techniques, she adjusts her recipes to match San Francisco’s unique flora. In 2011, Mariko sold her miso ferments to fundraise for tsunami victims, and they were a big hit! She joined the incubator program at La Cocina a year later and launched Aedan.
