Wow! 2016 is proving to be a busy and exciting year and we are just getting started!
Read on for a recap of all of the excitement in case you missed it.

Randpa and Gramma Jean were able to travel to Las Vegas, NV to meet Pediped founders, Angela and Brian Edgeworth, and the design team who created Kenadi's Boot. They were presented with a $2,250.00 donation and got to see the amazing butterfly wall at Pediped headquarters that you sent in! We are so grateful to everyone who sent in a butterfly postcard and helped raise money for the KJWF!

On February 6, 2016 Black Hills State University hosted a 'Hot Pink Out for Kenadi' basketball night in support of the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation.  The Basketball Night included half-time entertainment honoring Kenadi with all proceeds from the BHSU T-shirt quilt raffle,50/50 tickets, frisbee free throw sales and silent auction items helping to fund the BHSU Kenadi Jean Weis Memorial Scholarship.  The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior majoring in the Special Education Program.

The Finer Things in Life Chocolate Festival took place on February 6, 2016 just in time for Valentine's Day.  The festival highlighted dozens of arts and crafts vendors, door prizes, a silent auction, and plenty of sweet treats for participants to sample.  Kelli Ewert, President of the Greater Good of the Black Hills national organization, coordinated the event and the proceeds were donated to two charities: MGKids and our own Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation! Thank you Kelli!

We have formed the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation Advisory Board which meets the second Thursday of every month at the BHSU Joy Center here in Spearfish.  It is composed of people with a genuine interest in Kenadi's foundation and a desire to see it do well.  The team members will serve as a sounding board, offering ideas and expertise and giving us honest advice.  Come and help us grow!
The Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation participated in the Chamber of Commerce Multi-Member Gone Fishin' Mixer on March 24, 2016.  It was a great time to meet other area non-profits, local businesses and members of the Chamber.  Our table had homemade butterfly-shaped sugar cookies, from-scratch cream cheese frosting and fresh seasonal fruit so you could build your own individual fruit pizza!  It was a great place to be in celebration of Kenadi's two-year angelversary.

In January, KJWF President, Kelly Weis, had the opportunity to give a presentation to the Black Hills State University (BHSU) Adaptive PE class about inclusion of the uniquely-abled child.  She was also able to speak to the BHSU Honors Society about our foundation's mission and vision.  Thank you to those organizations for taking the time to listen and learn!
Our Lap Pad Program has been growing in leaps and bounds.  So much, in fact, that we've had to add two more talented seamstresses to our volunteer list.  Vicki Koehler and Carol Ann Doyle are creating custom-weighted lap pads that are perfect for children who have 'the wiggles.'
Thank you Vicki and Carol Ann for joining the KJWF team!

Several fundraisers have taken place over the last quarter and we, as a foundation, are so thankful for everyone thinking of us in their endeavors!
  • BHSU CAB Lip Sync Battle
Campus students and faculty came in like a 'Wrecking Ball' and were 'Defying Gravity' with their crowd-pleasing and entertaining fundraiser!
  • Kappa Delta Pi Culver's Fundraiser Night
Patrons were 'Welcomed to Delicious' at the Spearfish area Culver's for some tasty treats and yummy grub to help raise money!
  • Papa Murphy's Raise Some Dough Fundraiser Night
Pizza lovers found 'Love at 425°' when they picked up dinner from Papa Murphy's in Spearfish and helped raise some serious dough in the process!
All proceeds from these fundraisers were donated to the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation destination playground fund and are getting us one step closer to seeing our dream [of children playing, loving, and learning side-by-side] become a reality!  Thank you!
Thanks to the unrelenting efforts of Gramma Jean, Caroline's Cart, a shopping cart designed for children with special needs, rolled in to the Northern Hills.  Caroline's Cart will provide a quality product for individuals who need assistance, enabling them to participate in mainstream society with their family through the everyday activity of grocery shopping.
Our hope is that every retail store nationwide will eventually have one of Caroline's Carts.  For now, they can be found at Safeway and Lueders Food Center (pictured above) in Spearfish, SD and Lueders in Belle Fourche, SD.
