Writing inspiration and information for BC writers.

It's almost June. Time to contemplate the end of another school year for those of us with children or grandchildren, to make summer vacation plans or to put together a summer reading list. It's also a great time to make a summer writing plan.

For those of us who attended Where Will My Words Take Me? (Spring Writes) in Nanaimo earlier this month, we received a dose of inspiration from the many gifted writers and presenters whose workshops and readings we attended. Thank you to all our presenters, attendees, volunteers, supporters and trade fair participants who helped to made the festival a success. Special thanks to our intrepid president Ann Graham Walker, Lily Quan our event planner, and Jo-Anne McLean who coordinated our volunteers.

I encourage you to keep the momentum going! Enter a contest, take a course, attend a festival or retreat, and set a writing goal for yourself this summer.

My goal for the summer is to make the Fed's website more reader friendly and find ways to help you access writing information more easily. Please let me know if there's any specific types of info that you'd like to see on our site (such as contest listings or places to submit your work).

If you have any questions about any of our services, please email us at or you can reach me at

Wishing you inspiration in your writing,

Ellen Niemer
Executive Director

Yvonne Blomer is the FBCW's 2019 Honourary Ambassador
Congratulations to Yvonne Blomer, the 2019 recipient of the Federation of BC Writers' Honourary Ambassador Award. Launched in 2015, the Honourary Ambassador Award is given in recognition of a person whose work and achievements in the community bring attention to the value of writers and writing.

“Yvonne Blomer is an amazing poet whose broad-ranging work around the literary community sets a remarkable example and serves as an inspiration to all of us,” said Ann Graham Walker, president of the FBCW, in announcing the award.

Blomer served as the city of Victoria’s poet laureate from 2015-2018 and worked tirelessly to host readings, read at events, mentor poets and bring poetry into unexpected places.

The Honourary Ambassador Award comes with a lifetime membership to the FBCW. Past recipients are Naomi Beth Wakan, David Fraser and Wendy Morton.
