Federation response to the Culture White Paper, March 23, 2016

"The Creative Industries Federation welcomes publication of the Culture White Paper, the first for more than 50 years. The document is testament to the strong commitment by Ed Vaizey, Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy.

We agree with the intention that publicly-funded arts organisations lead the way in diversifying their reach. We welcome all new ways of working to ensure the resilience and long-term success of arts institutions across the UK. We believe that growth and success will, however, be put on a stronger footing only when linked much more closely to the provision of education and to an all-embracing plan for funding and finance. We are disappointed that this White Paper does not emphasise the inter-connectedness between creative industries companies and arts organisations, and that it does not make the case more strongly for arts teaching in schools.

We look forward to working with our members and government on a comprehensive strategy that will embed across central and local government the centrality of arts and culture in all areas of British life and its pivotal role in the creative industries - the fastest-growing sector of the UK economy."

- John Kampfner, Chief Executive, Creative Industries Federation.
