ICONIC PROPERTY OF THE MONTH: 
THE GAMBLE HOUSE
This large craftsman style home is located in sunny Pasadena, California. The Gamble House was designed and built for David Berry Gamble, a second generation member of the Proctor & Gamble Company and his wife Mary Huggins Gamble. The Gamble family spent every winter in Pasadena and after years of staying at resort hotels, they decided to build their own home. In 1908, architects Greene & Greene were commissioned by the family to build their winter residence on the short, private street, Westmoreland Place. The architects worked closely with the Gambles in the design of the house, incorporating specific design elements such as the family crest among its motifs. It took 10 months to build and by the summer of 1910, all the custom-designed furniture was in place.

The Gambles realized the artistic importance of the house and it remained in the Gamble family until 1966, when it was deeded to the city of Pasadena in a joint agreement with the University of Southern California School of Architecture. To learn more or schedule a visit, click here.

ABBOT KINNEY FIRST FRIDAY'S
Feast your eyes on a wide variety of food truck options that set the stage for a great date night, night out with friends or family affair. Abbot Kinney's First Friday's is a monthly event on the first Friday of the month, (hint the name) that features several food trucks, select shops open late, happy hours at select restaurants and special events in popup locations that vary each month. In case you forgot it was a thing, you're welcome!


RESTAURANT SPOTLIGHT

VESPERTINE, CULVER CITY

I had the privilege to try this restaurant last night and it really was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. For $250+ a person, Vespertine was recently ranked #1 on Jonathan Gold's 101 Best Restaurants of 2017. Jonathan Gold's description says it all, "The entire experience at Vespertine, from the lack of right angles in the dining room, to the throbbing four-note soundtrack, to the overwhelming abstraction of the food, to the stunning cost of dinner, is going to drive many of you insane. Yet looked at as an artwork, where the architect Eric Owen Moss, the ceramicist Ryota Aoki and the musicians in the post-rock band This Will Destroy You are as vital to the experience as the chef, Vespertine is in its way perfect."

PILOT LIGHT FOUNDATION
I had the honor to meet with the founder of this organization and think the work she is doing is truly incredible. In fact, my wife and I are planning our trip to Rwanda and Uganda for next summer to be a part of the program. Their program's hope is to create a solid foundation for future generations to build upon. When individuals can support themselves, they can establish a sustainable and thriving community for generations to come, lasting self-sufficiency, secure interdependent communities, and self-determination. The foundation builds resilience by working on the relationship between the individual and the community. The idea of the pilot light is that it will light a small spark that can grow into a larger fire that burns on its own, after we are gone. Pilot Light is proud that 100% of donations will be used directly for funding these projects and is a 501(C) (3). For a list of their impact projects or to donate, check out their website.
