9 matches were played last weekend.
9 times Bob Neil's faithful held their breath as a surprisingly sprightly, partially balding bloke in his mid 50's started his weekly power trip with a centre square ball up. 9 teams hoping that man wouldn't steal from them the delicious nectar that is a post-win sip of green ginger wine.
9 wins from 9 matches is a truly remarkable feat in itself, but one of those teams had to carry Eddie Dadds on a wing for a whole match and still get up - which is effectively the equivalent of playing one man down, except that man has switched to the other side, is somehow disguised in your teams colours and is dating one of your team mates sisters.
With the club entering a bit of form, Ladies day could not have come at a better time. Damon 'divots' Robinson is looking like a strong favourite for the Mr Uni competition which will be held as part of the event at BN#1 on Saturday, after citing his disproportionately long arms and fingers as his greatest asset and krumping at sugar as his ideal first date.
Make sure you get to Bob Neil #1 on Saturday to enjoy the ladies day festivities, coupled with countless failed attempts to mimic some Eddie Betts brilliance from the 'ladies day pocket'. Later on a slightly modified Hold Your Bowlies will be hosted by none other than the Hazard Jamieson and Eddie 'Ya Mums Ya' Dadds.
Snippets of Grey
Well that was a cracking Saturday at beautiful Bob Neil # 1 with the 96 premiership crew in fine form. A midday start in the Long Room to watch the replay of the game was always going to create some raucous carry on as the day progressed and when the A grade kicked away in the last quarter the song book was well and truly out, with Bob Neil chants and Mickey Barr Up belted out across the parklands and in the changerooms after the game. Also an offer by one of the lads to shout the entire A grade a footy trip to Sydney if they win the flag...we'll remember that.
The day probably best summed up by one of our favourite life members: "Watching the Blacks have a win with a great bunch of blokes, drinking copious amounts of alcohol, falling over at the Havelock and being asked to leave around 9 o'clock...yeah, I'd say it was a pretty successful night. Let's do it again some time."
Tomorrow is obviously another HUGE day with an enormous Ladies Day on the go and then Bowlies at the ground. The playing group have done a great job putting this event together so get along if you can for what should be a cracking afternoon and a super important game for the A grade before we head into the bye.
For the Grey Diary - June 25 at Uni Oval
Keeping up the momentum with our home games, Saturday the 25th sees the reunion of the 2006 B grade premiership and the Scum circa 2006 team, give or take a couple of years.
In addition, and recently confirmed, Allison Eckert and sons will be attending their first game at Uni Oval since Nose's passing, so it would be great to see as many of Nose's mates at the footy as possible. As always, B’s start at 12:15 and the A’s at 2:15, playing the Tarmished Spooners. Longroom open for inexpensive red cans of Bob Neil’s finest, canteen, hot chips, ½ time dob, grass-roots footy at its best. What more could you want?
We have had an overwhelming response to ladies day this weekend, and are set to have a record number watching the Mighty Uni Blacks take on ROCs at Bob Neil #1 from the boundary side marquee.
After the game join the Adelaide University players in the marquee for a night of comedy and fun when four players compete for the title of Mr University 2016 voted by the ladies of the day. Dance floor, DJ's and cheap drinks til 10:00pm before a short stroll into the city if you haven't had enough for the day.
For the guys:
Bowlies will also be held at BN#1 Saturday Night.
We will put on $5 beers, wine, cider and champagne all day for Blacks registered players (come out and watch the A and B grade)
La cantina food truck will be there from 6pm for dinner.

Match Report of the week
Budgies finish off an undefeated TTG
As the rain came down all week, Saturdays game looked to be a struggle for the budgies. But upon arrival, bob neil #1 looked absolutely immaculate. The sun was shining, the boys were pumped, this is what blacks footy is all about.
After the performance shown the week before the budgie smugglers were keen to prove just how good they were. A certain feeling filled the room before the game, up against the top side the blacks new they had to bring something special to come home with the chocolates.
The first quarter was a good battle, back and forth for the majority of the time. Unlike previous weeks the budgies were kicking straight and looking damaging. The budgies entered the quarter time break just on top of gullies, the match looked promising as we headed into the second quarter where we would kick with a slight breeze.
The second term produced some of the budgies best footy. The skills were on display left right and centre. Deng was excellent out of the ruck, winning most of the taps to the advantage of running midfielders. Alf Stewart provided many clearances, to then hit up the forwards to their advantage. The goals started flowing, whether it be a floater from crouch potato directly in front or a snap from the point post from Patty Dolan, the budgies were on. The main break was entered with a steady lead but the budgies new they couldn’t stop there.
The next quarter the gullies performed as a top side should. They played their best footy for the game but credit goes to the back men and midfielders who held their own when under pressure. Jackson 'buck hunter' Dearing was exceptional for the majority of the game taking marks Matt Murdoch could only dream of. Pitto was another who performed well, winning the hard ball and providing plenty of footy to our numerous outside running players. Although under immense pressure the budgies still held a lead at three quarter time, but the gullies were coming strong.
Both teams came to play in the final quarter, again the ball going back and forth. Gullies would kick a goal, the blacks would respond with another. Not ever letting the tee-hees gather a lead the boys showed great commitment and persistence to get the job done. A late goal to the blacks ensured a 10 point victory and a spot in the top 5. Strong signs ahead as the second half of the season comes closer.
A best on ground performance from monty was brilliant, perhaps a few more weekends away with the missus can be planned to ensure these performances the week after?

This year the Mighty Blacks will be fundraising with the Entertainment Book. The books are $65 each ($13 of this goes towards the club/team as a fundraising component).
Each team has a designated fundraising site (refer to links below). Share with your friends, family, neighbours, work colleagues, drinking buddys and tinder (or grinder – we don’t judge) dates. Funds raised go directly to the team/Club.
Bob Neil has used his scientific calculator that he only needs to sell 4 books to get a carton of South Australia’s finest and a bottle of Green Ginger Wine!
Last year the Chards raised over $300 selling the book, which was donated to Dirty.
For those of you that don’t know the book it is filled with plenty of 2-4-1 deals and 25% off vouchers for clubs and bars across Adelaide. With places like The Havey, The British, The Kentish, Zambrero and Burger Foundary you’ll be sure to make you money back.
If you want a book they can be brought to training or delivery can be organised to a home or office. If you buy digital it is uploaded onto your phone and is able to use immediately, it’s definitely the way to go.
Any queries, please see contact Chardonnay Socialist, Anthony ‘Drop Bear’ Vallelonga on 0403 583 735.
The A and B grade playing list (with Guernsey Numbers) is available here for those who have requested player numbers when attending games. There are a number of players moving in and out of these teams but we have done our best to cover most players. However, we do apologise if this is not all encompassing of the potential Div 1 playing squad.
