"September was a relatively quiet month with only the one race meeting being held. Greg McFarlane kept up the fast pace of Gosford trained winners with a win in the 4th with ‘Second Island’ and another in the 8th with the very impressive ‘Our Winnie’ who has a cracking record of five wins in her last five starts. The ever popular Neil Ward was unlucky with a second place finish in the 7th with ‘Emperor Harada’ ridden by local Chris O’Brien.

Whilst the racing at Gosford was quiet, the wins for the local trainers was far from, with eleven winners during the month, being:

Angela Davies – Picking up a double at Tamworth on the 11th with ‘Maui Princess’ in race 3 and ‘Rubel’ in race 6 and picking up another win in the 7th at Port Macquarie with ‘Yambaah Prince’.

Greg McFarlane – A double at Gosford on the 6th as noted above and ‘Our Winnie’ picking up another win on the 29th at Newcastle in the 7th.

Grant Allard – ‘Zoffany’s Lad’ picked up a quick fire double with wins on the 3rd and 16th at Taree.

Tony Newing – Took out the 7th at Bowraville with ‘Cherry Princess’.

Nick Mitchell – Placing first in the 6th at Newcastle on the 15th with ‘Kotinos’.

Luke Hilton – Making the trip to Canberra worthwhile with a win in the 3rd with ‘Rapid Lover’.
After the raceday on the 4th October, Steve Scollard and his team commenced the annual course proper renovation. The grass will be dethatched, cut right back and top dressed, this process ensures a first grade racing service for our very busy spring/summer racing calendar.

Switching to non race day, unfortunately for us the very popular Aussie Nightmarkets which brings together 50+ food trucks was postponed due to impeding bad weather, the forecast was slightly out with no rain falling. The bad weather curse also bit in October with the event bringing another bad forecast so it was also postponed. Hopefully the next event in November will bring out a bit of sun.

On a brighter note the ‘Valley to Coast’ festival was held on Saturday 29th with nearing 4,000 people in attendance over the course of the day. We also held a wedding plus numerous conferences and events including the NSW business chamber. With more weddings and functions booked in, October is on course to be a very busy month for our events team. I will also hopefully be bringing you news on a new festival that we are working on for the new year, so please keep your eye out on our social platforms for the announcement.

Please remember that we are holding our annual members cocktail party on Friday 19th October, this event is free for all members and is always a very enjoyable evening. There will be entertainment and prizes to be won along with the usual high quality cocktail offering.

This year Directors Michael Cusick, Stephen McShane and Andrew Allen were all up for re-election, after the required call for nominations no other member presented themselves to stand for election. This means all three current Directors will be re-elected unopposed. This year’s AGM is scheduled for Monday 29th October so please if you wish to attend please be onsite for a 6pm start.

Finally I would like to update members on one of our current Directors, Reg Delaney. Reg has been recovering from a back injury which rendered him quite unwell. He has been in hospital for nearly 5 weeks and has just been discharged to an injury recovery clinic. Reg is now doing quite well and is on the road back to full health, however he will most likely be absent from formal race club engagement for the foreseeable future."

"It’s been a wet start to October with some much appreciated rain. Our scheduled track renovation works have had to be shuffled around but overall the track is in great condition moving into our busiest period."
