This year, The Entertainment Grounds is pleased to announce another Saturday race day in the 2018/2019 Season as well as our new look Summer Series featuring the Central Coast Carnival!

"July was a busy month with us hosting three race meets. The raceday on the 3rd was always going to be a fairly quiet affair being a Tuesday in Winter. Luckily though popular trainer Neil Ward took out the last with ‘Emperor Harada’ to liven up the day.

We were pleased to host the ‘Men of League Foundation’ Raceday on the 19th. This is an annual event which always attracts close to 300 patrons to their function and this year was no exception. Unfortunately there were no local winners, the closest was Carmen Murnane’s ‘Orsum Dream’ placing second in the 4th, it was $31 so hopefully a few punters who back the locals had a payout?

We wrapped up July with the very popular Christmas in July raceday. It is the second time we have held this event, like the inaugural one this raceday also sold out of all hospitality packages with just under 400 patrons enjoying one of our offerings on a warm winters day. There was a very healthy contingent of local horses battling it out with wins for Irene Cowell’s ‘Uncle Sam’ in the 5th and Grant Allard’s ‘Americana Magic’ taking out the last. When ‘Uncle Sam’ nodded over the line there was a huge roar from the crowd which is testament to Fred Cowell’s legacy and at $11 there would have been some very happy punters. Irene nearly finished with a double with the handy ‘Sojournist’ finishing a very close 2nd in the 7th. I personally was looking forward to the ‘Americana Magic’ head to head with Kylie Gavenlocks ‘The Big Vin’, with Rory Hutchings steering ‘Americana Magic’ to a win by nearly a length to second place.

We are now well into our Winter programme with our racing about to drop off until Spring. We race next Tuesday, the 14th with the Laundy Hotel Group taking out their first raceday with us. This followed up with the Walker Bros raceday on 6th September and wrapping up with a meeting on the 4th October.

Post our October meeting our very capable track team will conduct the annual course proper renovation whereby the track is cut right back, dethatched and top dressed. This will then set us up for a very busy Spring/Summer campaign.

Moving onto trainers, I would like to congratulate Tony Newing, SJ Racing and all of Tony and wife Stacey’s owners and staff for taking out the 2017/18 Gosford Trainers Premiership with 13 wins. Like Chautauqua (when he actually raced) Tony came from behind with a late surge to take out top honours. Tony racked up three wins in July with ‘King Lear’ winning two at Grafton within a week and ‘Dia Vernon’ also winning at Grafton.

Other winners in July included Ken Parker’s ‘Invicta’ at Newcastle, Greg McFarlane’s ‘Golden Tycoon’ at Canterbury and ‘Our Winnie’ at Scone. The aforementioned ‘Americana Magic’ with Grant Allard, Irene Cowell’s ‘Uncle Sam’ and Neil Ward’s ‘Emperor Harada’ all at Gosford. Luke Hilton’s ‘Master Magic Al’ scored a win in Taree and Nick Mitchell has the honour of the last Gosford winner of the season with ‘Matakauri’ at Newcastle on the last day.
I mentioned last month that membership renewals were in full swing with close to 85% of members renewing for the 2018/19 season. Please note though if you have not yet renewed your membership you have until the end of August to do so at which time you will cease be a member and you will have to reapply. Please remember we are still running the referral bonus offer of a $15 hospitality credit for all new member sign ups that are referred by a current member until 31 August 2018. So if you have a friend who you buy day passes for, get them signed up and enjoy some free hospitality on us.
With regards to functions and events we are continually picking up new events and are fast becoming the goto venue for functions, parties, conferences and expo’s. In July we hosted the ‘Aussie night markets’ with over 50 vendors selling speciality foods and wears. The popularity of the night took everyone by surprise and with an estimated 10,000 foodies coming out to sample the fair.

We also hosted the annual NAIDOC event, this was superbly organised as usual by their committee and volunteers, a great day was had by the thousands who attended. We also hosted the ‘Sydney Comedy Club’, we have a show approximately every six weeks and the last two have been a total sell out. Our next show is on the 1st September with tickets proving very popular already. Please note that we have offered all members a $10 discount to the evening with tickets available for just $15."

"July hosted three race days along with some larger community events, including the second Aussie Night Markets which saw a huge 10,000 members of our community attend. With some issues around parking, limited ATM’s and with some food trucks running low or out of food, TEG worked with the Aussie Night Market organisers to ensure a smoother event in August. The August Aussie Night Market was definitely an improvement, hosting over 5,000 people.
In July,  TEG also hosted the annual Central Coast NAIDOC Community Day which saw 3,500 – 4,000 people attend.
Our regular Sydney Comedy Club event was another success with a sold out crowd enjoying food, fun and laughs!”

"The track currently looking a bit worse for wear after a cold winter that has seen us receive 6 heavy frosts but the upside is the track continues to race very well and handle whatever that is thrown at it both on race days and on trial days. Bring on Spring and we will see a return of the green colour and a more healthy plant!"
