Dear Subscriber,

Welcome to the April edition of our monthly newsletter from The Entertainment Grounds. We are pleased to bring you all of the news from The EG from upcoming race days, events, trainers, functions and events.

The Entertainment Grounds hosted the third qualifying round of the $150,000 Polytrack Provincial Championships on Saturday 17th March. Kris Lees’ trained Serene Miss with jockey Aaron Bullock took out the $150,000 Provincial Championships Qualifier (1200m), adding another qualifier to his mix heading into the $500,000 Championship Final at Royal Randwick on April 14th. Wyong trainer Kim Waugh ran second with Newsfan while Michelle Ritchie and Can’t Find Snippy rounded out the top three qualifiers.

Saturday 17th March also marked annual St Patrick's Day celebrations. Entertainment included live music, kids activities, Irish Dancers, craft beer and food trucks as well as the St Patrick's Day VIP Marquee which featured well known local artists Steamboat Hollow and DJ Steve Pike.

Next up on the racing calendar is our annual ANZAC Day Race Day on Wednesday 25th April. Once again, The Entertainment Grounds have partnered with Hit 101.3 Sea FM to bring you live racing, kids activities, Two-Up, live music, food trucks, Beer Garden VIP marquee and more! Hospitality Packages available - MORE INFORMATION.

A WORD FROM CEO - DANIEL LACEY
"March saw Gosford host its heat of the Provincial Championships. It was a wonderful day with nearly 1,900 patrons coming out to the track, which included over 140 Members. In line with all Provincial clubs we pushed the boat out and included a whole host of on course activation's. Overall it was an outstanding success and Im very pleased with Racing NSW’s decision to host the heats on a Saturday, it definitely paid off. It was unfortunate not to have a Gosford runner in the mix with Fred Cowell’s ‘Sojournist’ and Angela Davies ‘Single and Free’ both scratching, although only one of them could of raced due to them both being emergencies. Gosford will be represented by Greg Mcfarlane’s ‘Its So Obvious’ in the Championship Final this Saturday, it is an emergency so hopefully she will get a run.

We now turn our attention to ANZAC Day which historically has been one of our most well attended racedays on the calendar. The last two years have been hampered by rain and even hail, so I am hoping for a clear day this year. We have partnered with Hit 101.3 Sea FM this year and they will be hosting two marquees one 'Past The Post' and the other in the betting ring garden. All hospitality packages are now on sale with a limit of forty (40) places available in the Panorama Lounge, so jump on these soon before they sell out!

Clubs are still awaiting the final release of the race dates for 2018/19, I am hopeful this will occur within a couple of weeks. I have mentioned previously that I am trying to gain a Friday slot for our Gold Cup. Currently our preferred date is occupied by a Canterbury night meeting, which makes securing that date problematic. However I will keep persisting as I believe a Provincial Cup (with two listed races) should be given precedence over a standard Metro midweek.

With regards to training, Proride have been regularly inspecting the main training track with our tracks team adhering to the recommended maintenance program. To date, the track is in good condition (for it's age). An additional application of binder, which was scheduled for April, will now occur in May. This application should make the surface softer and hold together better. I am still in discussions with Racing NSW in regards to training infrastructure at Gosford, as soon as I have any news on this matter, I will make it public to the trainers and members.

I did mention last month that the Lakeview Room is undergoing a small renovation, this is progressing well with a new ceiling, lighting, speakers and tiling, which should be completed by ANZAC Day.

Finally congratulations to Gosford Trainers Fred Cowell (Sojournist), Tony Newing (King Lear), Carmen Murnane (Lilac Wine) and Nick Mitchell (Kotinos) all picking up wins in March."

A WORD FROM THE EVENTS TEAM - DAVID SHANAHAN
"March was a busy month for racing with all three racedays falling within 12 days of each other. The focus was our St Patrick's Day Raceday featuring the Polytrack Provincial Championships qualifier, being a Saturday raceday, we experienced a large crowd here enjoying the high quality racing and St Patrick's Day celebrations.

We hosted the International Woman’s Day dinner on Thursday 8th March, with around 200 people attending and enjoying a delicious 3 course sit down meal, entertainment and inspirational words from guest speakers.

Over 2,000 units of soft drink and water were sold during the month, most likely a result of the warm temperatures we experienced. Our two biggest sellers for the month were: XXXX Goold Schooners and Tooheys New schooners"

The Gosford Trainers Premiership will run from 1st August 2017 until 31st July 2018.

A WORD FROM THE TRACK MANAGER - STEPHEN SCOLLARD
"The track is in great condition considering the racing program over the past few weeks, having raced 3 times in 12 days along with the substantial rainfall we had in late March. The grass continues to handle the work load and remains in fairly good shape heading into the cooler months.

The newly excavated dam in the middle of the jogging track is slowly starting to fill. With less need for irrigation in the coming months, by Spring our dams should be close to capacity.

During April the track and maintenance staff will begin work on repainting and replacing the suspended MJ Cusick Stand ceiling. This is the only room that hasn't received any major renovations, so these few improvements should really brighten and freshen up the space.

There is also some work taking place in the Riverdale kitchen which is due to be finished for our big Anzac Day meeting"
