Dear Subscriber,

Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of our monthly newsletter for 2019! We are pleased to continue bringing you all the news from The Entertainment Grounds, including upcoming race days, events, trainers, functions and events.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who braved the warm weather and joined us for our race meetings throughout December, including the Belle of the Turf Raceday on the 28th and New Years Eve Family Raceday. It was great to see so many work and social groups booked in for packages to celebrate Christmas and the end of another year, along with plenty of families making the most of our free kids activities.

The Summer Series continues into January with a Twilight Race Meeting this Friday, 11th January. We have tied this race meeting in with the Gosford Food Truck Fair, so make the most of the glorious summer afternoons with a quality seven-card race, delicious hospitality, live music, kids entertainment and an assortment of culinary delights in our food truck alley! Gates open at 2pm with FREE ENTRY for all.

Following on is the finale of the Tooheys Central Coast Carnival with the prestigious Gosford Quarries Gosford Gold Cup on Thursday 17th January. A WORD FROM CEO - DANIEL LACEY

"December was an extremely busy time for all involved at the Club with four race meets occurring including group and listed races. We started with the meet on the 6th December unfortunately there were no Gosford trained horses that won on the day. We then moved onto the annual December Christmas picnic meeting, we had over 1,000 patrons that had pre-booked into one of our packages. The day was extremely successful with patrons enjoying the festive period. Greg McFarlane took out the 2nd race with ‘Avid General’. Next up was the Gosford RSL Belle of the Turf Raceday. We also welcomed Mercedes-Benz Gosford on board as the naming partner for the Gosford Guineas. The Belle of the Turf promised to be a very strong race but the heavily backed pre race favourite ‘Aloisia’ was scratched along with Godolphin’s ’Deft’, the race was still strong but with a reduced field, Chris Wallers ‘Sexy Eyes’ took out the win in a very very close finish. The Guineas was moved this year from January to this day to allow for the 3 year old’s to race here before heading up to the Magic Millions. This decision it seems has paid off with an increased field of nearly 60% to eleven starters. All eyes were on local Luke Hiltion’s ‘Mornay’ whom had very good form leading into the race, however the Snowden’s took out the race with ‘Military Zone’ and they brought all 20+ owners with them who all enjoyed themselves in the winning owners room. It is also worthwhile mentioning that Richard Freedman got his first ever Gosford winner with ‘Nahuel’ in the 3rd. The day was capped off by a great local win with Greg McFarlane taking out the class 3 heat of the class series in the last with ‘It’s So Obvious’, Greg has big plans for this horse and will be targeting the Provincial Championships in a few months. Finally we raced on NYE which was again one of the highlights of the calendar with over 3,000 patrons on track which is a fantastic number considering the day was very hot and humid. Sadly there were no Gosford winners on the day but there were a number of Gosford trained runners which is pleasing to see.

In other Gosford trainers news the wins in December came thick and fast, in addition to Greg’s wins noted above, Kylie Gavenlock’s ‘Wild about her’ picked up a double at Newcastle, Luke Hiltons ‘Mornay’ won at Mudgee, Nick Mitchell’s ‘No Soup For You’ took out the 3rd at Quirindi, Adam Duggan’s ‘Front View’ at Newcastle, new to the Gosford fold, John Cooper’s ‘Coolaminyah Kid’ won at Scone, Jim Louizos trained ‘Danzibar Dancer’ placed first at Tuncurry and finally Angela Davies who picked up three wins with ‘Through The Cracks’ and ‘Clipper’ both at Scone, Angela also won the last Metropolitan race of 2018 also with ‘Clipper’ at Randwick. Congratulations to all trainers, their staff and of course their owners.

For those of you who have attended the track lately I am sure you would have noticed that the course proper is probably looking the best it ever has, the cover is exceptional and the cushion is superb, credit to Steve Scollard and his team for braving the hot conditions to present such a great surface.

As with my last few newsletters I am still awaiting the Racing NSW strategic plan which has not been made public and I am yet to see the final content. I did mention in my last newsletter that the club will continue to press in order to gain assistance to improve our training & stabling infrastructure and that statement still stands.

The raceday on the 28th December saw an unprecedented amount of members and owners visit us, over 220 members and over 280 owners which is a 40% increase to that of last year. As I am sure you can appreciate our facilities can only hold a limited amount of guests and with the weather being so hot on this day all those guest wanted to be inside in the air conditioning. We have policies in place whereby on our feature days we now do not sell tickets into the members stand and members cannot use their free guest passes either. We have to have these policies in place to accommodate the full paying members. We are restricted to how many table and chairs we can physically fit in the room, that being said we are going to look at purchasing further high tables which will enable members to at least have a ‘base’. In the current climate it is a good problem to have, however the Club wants to take every step possible to present a comfortable and enjoyable space for its members, thus as we are fast approaching capacity whereby we will cease offering memberships and a waiting list will need to be installed. Please be aware that the same policies will be in place for Gold Cup day, if you have guests visiting from outside the Central Coast you can purchase a day pass but all other guests will need to become members if they wish to gain access to the members room.

We now look forward to the Gold Cup and Takeover Target, after speaking with a couple of our trainers there should be one or two local horses contesting the features, hooves crossed for a local win!

On behalf of the Board and Staff at The entertainment Grounds we wish you luck and prosperity in 2019."

A WORD FROM THE EVENTS TEAM - DAVID SHANAHAN

“Once again, December was a busy month for the events team with Christmas parties happening every weekend, 4 race days during the month and another successful Aussie Nightmarkets with over 5,000 people attending.

We also confirmed a live act for the month of February – this summer we will host the global reggae hit makers, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell & Astro! Due to overwhelming demand, they have added a final show to their 40th Anniversary Australian Tour. This sees us getting back into the live music ring after a 12 month hiatus. We are all looking forward to having a Red, Red Wine in February listening to some great classics!”

A WORD FROM THE TRACK MANAGER - STEPHEN SCOLLARD

"The track is currently in great condition as we build towards cup day and has stood up really well with all the recent racing.

Racing wise, it will great to see a local runner in the Gosford Gold Cup with Kylie Gavenlock planning to run her horse 'Wild About Her' which has won its last three races. So good luck to her and any other locals planning on running on cup day"
