Dear Subscriber,

Welcome to the February edition of The Entertainment Grounds monthly e-newsletter. We have had lots going on around the place and lots of exciting things to come, so read on for more details...

SUMMER SERIES WRAP
The Summer Series featuring the new look Tooheys Central Coast Carnival is done & dusted for another year! Thank you to all who attended over this period including our featured race sponsors; Gosford Quarries, Mercedes Benz Gosford, Gosford RSL, Tabcorp & De-Bortoli.

Click here to view the Summer Racing RESULTS / GALLERIES.

UPCOMING FEATURE DAYS
It has been brought to our attention that some patrons without the correct ticketing have been gaining access to the Members Lounge. This has become a problem particularly on our feature days with a higher attendance rate of members & owners. We will now be conducting badge verifications to make sure only eligible patrons have access to the members lounge.

Summer racing continues with two upcoming Saturday racedays;
BELLBIRDS RACEDAY - Saturday 23 February
POLYTRACK PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIER RACEDAY - Saturday 16 March

Hospitality packages are available but selling fast! Visit our website for more information or to book.

A WORD FROM CEO - DANIEL LACEY

"January saw us host the latter stages of the Central Coast Carnival. First up was the newly reinvigorated Friday Twilight held on the 11th January. Utilising the very popular Aussie Night Markets food trucks we opened up the gates for everyone and put on live music, kids entertainment and over 20 food trucks. We ended up with a crowd over 2,700 which is an exceptional amount of people most of which would not of experienced live racing before.

We then moved onto the Gosford Quarries Gosford Gold Cup raceday which also included the De Bortoli Wines Takeover Target and the final of the class series being the MJ Cusick. Kris Lee’s ‘Tactical Advantage’ took out the Takeover Target in record time. It was also a record for the amount of winning owners that we hosted with 30+ on course to witness their win. The very popular Bjorn Baker won the Gold Cup with ‘Sir Plush’, The Baker stable is seeing a bit of a resurgence at Gosford with a few wins of late. And finally David Atkins outside chance ‘All from Scrap’ finished top place for the MJ Cusick.  It was pleasing to see a big field for the Cup and over all our black type races we saw a 13% increase in starters to that of last year. We will now review the format and programming to see if there are any other tweaks that can be made to further enhance the fields and attendance. One focus has been to host Cup day on a Friday and after nearly a year of trying it unfortunately doesn’t look like this will happen. This is both a shame and blow to the club as hosting the Cup on a Friday would enable us to increase attendance further still, but we do not control the programming and the decision is out of our hands.

We wrapped up January’s racing with a meet on the 30th, this race was very badly placed with a huge amount of racing in the Central Coast/Hunter region over a short space of time. This was evident with very low nominations for the 1900m race which was eventually dropped from the programme. I will however applaud Racing NSW with the decision to cancel a race early and allow trainers to find another race.

There were a few wins from Gosford trainers in January with Angela Davies, Greg McFarlane and Natasha Hall Antonio all taking out first place.

We are now in the planning phase for our heat of the Polytrack Provincial Championship which is due to be held on the 16th March. This is a day that has the potential to be a feature meet and we’ll be trying hard to make the day memorable for all those who attend."

A WORD FROM THE EVENTS TEAM - DAVID SHANAHAN

“January had 3 great race days with 11th January being our first attempt at combining a race day with food night markets.

With 2,700 people attending, enjoying great food and good fields. Saw multiple races going down to the wire and one ending in a dead heat!

All of which made for a great day/ night and a success in marrying the two together.. We look forward to trying out variations on that theme for future high profile race days in the future."

The Gosford Trainers Premiership will run from 1st August 2018 until 31st July 2019.

A WORD FROM THE TRACK MANAGER - STEPHEN SCOLLARD

"The track is currently in great condition and has held up extremely well over the recent busy period.

With this great weather we've been receiving recently we are currently mowing 3 times a week which is keeping us busy. The warm weather also means more irrigation which has seen the dam levels drop but there should be plenty of water to get us through"
