Meet the New Director in Person

New SVRC director Jon Segars officially started his position on Monday, July 12. Be one of the first to meet him in the SVRC offices in the Tate Student Center by emailing the SVRC for an appointment time.

Isakson and Roe Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020

The Isakson and Roe Act enhances and expands education benefits and programs for veterans, service members, families, and survivors. Check out the descriptions on this website to understand how the provisions impact GI Bill® and Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) benefits.

Be sure to review Section 1005. Requirements for in-state tuition - Removes the requirement for covered individuals to enroll in a course at a public institution of higher learning within three years of being discharged to receive in-state tuition. Also, VA will make publicly available on the VA website a database explaining any public institution’s requirements for beneficiaries to be charged in-state tuition. Effective: August 1, 2021.

Fall SVRC Quick Looks

This fall the SVRC is offering a number of opportunities for students to engage with organizations relevant to their needs. We're calling these engagements "Quick Looks." As of this writing, we are working with five organizations, with more to come:

  • The Home Depot
  • Fiserv
  • Synovus
  • Cox Communications
  • Newell

UGA Virtual Career Fairs

Whether you are a sophomore, junior, or rising senior, it is time to get serious about jobs and internships. Did you know that students who complete one or two internships have a definite edge over their competition?

The UGA Career Center has posted all of their fall career fair dates as follows:

  • Engineering and Computer Science Career & Internship Fair – October 7, 2021
  • Financial Planning, Housing, and Consumer Economics Internship & Career Fair – October 12, 2021

  • Food, Agricultural, Environmental, and Sciences Career & Internship Fair – October 19, 2021

Employment Opportunities at the Georgia Center

The Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel on the UGA Campus consists of facilities for continuing education classes and also a full service hotel.  
They have numerous positions available currently – several are management level. You can view open positions descriptions and apply for them here.  

Should you apply, please email Mandy Levi with the position title and she will make sure the director of the Center knows that you are a student veteran.
The 3 Rules of Addressing Your Cover Letter

You've found the perfect job and finally sat down to write your cover letter. How do you even start? Should you use Mr. or Ms.? Do you include a first name? And what if you've searched high and low, but you can't find the hiring manager's name?

Don't fret. Follow these rules for cover letter salutations.
