Department of Homeland Security Secretary’s Honors Program (Cyber):   


The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the launch of the spring/summer 2018 Secretary’s Honors Program Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative for current undergraduate and graduate college students.

This program is a part of the Department’s efforts to build a cybersecurity talent pipeline by working with secondary, post-secondary institutions and other key partners in academia and the private sector. The review/selection process will start on February 23, 2018. Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received and continue until all selections are made or until the official deadline, March 8, 2018. 
 

Wells Fargo Treasury Management (all majors): 


The SVA Business Affinity group is hosting Wells Fargo on Thursday, March 8th from 0800-0900 in Tate Rm 482 (light breakfast provided).   Patrick Haddock, a Wells Fargo Treasury Management Talent Manager, is visiting to discuss a full-time job program and two open positions they are trying to fill with student veterans.  Patrick can answer questions about opportunities within the Treasury Management program as well as generally discuss other opportunities at Wells Fargo (Full-Time/Internships).

Because this is a one-year developmental program leading to full-time employment, high-performing student veterans from all majors are welcome. 
 

2017 Career Outcome Results:  


The purpose of the UGA's Career Center’s Outcomes Initiative is to provide insight into the employment or continuing education status for UGA's graduates (Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate) within an average of 6 months of their graduation date.  The 2017 data collected provides detailed employment information, salary statistics, and graduate school information and is based on the known career outcomes of 7,890 graduates.

Honor Cord Reception: 


Mark your calendars for April 26 (Reading Day) when President Morehead and Dean McDonald will join us in recognizing all our graduating student veterans with our unique triple Red, White and Blue Honor Cords.   The event takes place on Thursday, April 26, 2:30 in the Tate Grand Hall Rooms A/B.  Families are welcome.

SECOME Scholarships:


The Southeastern Council on Military Education Scholarship is open for applications as of February 9th. SECOME’s 2018 goal is to award up to $20,000 in scholarships. 

The application deadline is on 15 June 2018 and winners will be announced on 30 September 2018.

Pre-Health Scholarships:

 
The Pre-Health Advising Office announced five scholarships available to UGA students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare.   The scholarships will be handed out during this year’s Initiation Ceremony of Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) Pre-Medical Honor Society to be held on March 22 from 5:30pm—7:00pm in the Special Collections Library Auditorium. You do not have to be a member of AED to apply for or receive a scholarship, however, scholarship recipients are expected to be present for the ceremony.
 

Sierra Club Outdoor Volunteer Opportunity


Sierra ClubDo you enjoy the outdoor nature experience; going on hikes, kayaking, rowboating, etc.? If so, Sierra Club’s Military Outdoors Program offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy nature while providing a service to fellow veterans and their families who could benefit from the rejuvenating effect of the outdoors.  

Veteran and Poet: Christopher Collins:


On Tuesday, February 20th, Christopher Collins, a former military officer in the Army Reserve, will be conducting a reading from his price winning poetry selection (My American Night). The event takes place at The Globe Upstairs (199 N Lumpkin St, Athens, GA 30601). The event is free and open to the public.
