SVRC 2015 June Newsletter

Readiness:

The SVRC is here to facilitate your entry into the university as well as to help you transition out of the university and into the job market or graduate school. Though nearly 90% of our undergraduates participate in our orientation and transition coaching program, not nearly as many engage in the variety of programs we offer on career readiness
(see below):

As you approach your junior/senior year, we’d like to connect you with a readiness coach who can, in turn, plug you into a number of opportunities that will ease your career transition.

Going forward, we will keep you aware of opportunities to connect with corporate and graduate school. If you have questions or specific goals for your job search, please come visit the SVRC!

Employer Updates:

As a part of our Readiness Program, we will be notifying you of the corporate partners looking to connect with the Veterans of UGA. This is an excellent opportunity for you to connect with corporate recruiters and explore the potential for internships and full-time employment opportunities.  In some cases, these are opportunities that may lie outside your home School or College. Your first opportunity to connect is this week!

  • Who: Amazon

  • What: Amazon is recruiting the Veterans (all majors) at UGA and wants to connect with you! Jared Artrip, an Area Manager with Amazon fulfillment, will be speaking at the Terry Employer of the Day and will be sharing insights on the Area Manager role.

  • When/Where: Jared will be at the SVRC Tuesday, 9/6, at 2:45pm and the Terry Employer of the Day Wednesday, 9/8, from 1-4pm.

Check out the Amazon Fulfillment page and Amazon Leadership principles to learn more about Amazon and come connect with Jared in person! We are also working with Google and hope to release details in a separate and recurring  Employer Update Career Newsletter this week.

21 Sep Career and Internship Fair:

There is still time to get your resume reviewed prior to the upcoming Career Fair. If you want quick look, swing by the SVRC.

Upcoming Graduate School Workshops and Fair:

There are a number of graduate school workshops leading up to the Fall Graduate School Fair:

  • 15 Sep and 12 Oct Preparing for Graduate School Workshops:   These workshops outline how to apply and succeed in graduate school. For more information, click here

  • 26 Oct Graduate School Fair:   Sponsored by the Career Center

Additionally, The SVRC has an outstanding liaison in the UGA Graduate School.  If you need more of a personal touch in navigating the process, please let us know and we’ll connect the dots.

Boren Awards

Did you know we have a student veteran who is currently studying as a Boren Scholar in Brazil?  The program is competitive; however, if you can get into UGA and succeed, chances are you will compete well for the limited number of Boren Scholarships.
