SVRC 2015 June Newsletter

SVRC Academic Coach:


Dr. Sylvia Hutchinson has joined our team as a Student Veteran Academic Coach.  Sylvia, a UGA professor emerita now volunteering within the Division of Academic Enhancement, is available to meet with student veterans who may need a helping-hand navigating a difficult class. If interested; contact me asap and I’ll connect the dots.
 

SVRC Fall Scholarships:  


If you have some free time over the Labor Day Holiday, consider using that time to apply for an SVRC scholarship. A single application enables you to compete for all scholarships. To apply, click here.

Additionally, UGA offers many internal scholarships (Office of Financial Aid) and external scholarships, that may still be available. These opportunities are accessible from here.
 

Fully Funded Study Abroad- Boren Scholarships: 


The National Security Education Program (NSEP) is looking for current undergraduate and graduate-level students to participate in the David L. Boren Scholarship/Fellowship program. The NSEP awards up to $25,000 to those interested in serving in the Federal Government at the completion of the scholar’s degree program. All majors and career backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Affinity Groups (AG): 


The SVA and SVRC have partnered to create two academic affinity groups: one for business and one for engineering students. Both groups are already planning employer events tied to their respective professional career fairs. If you are a business or engineering undergrad and want to learn more, contact our AG lead asap:  

Career Fairs:  

There are a variety of career fairs on the horizon.  If you need help posturing for these events, sign up to engage with one of our Readiness Coaches.  Our developmental program complements the many opportunities offered by the UGA Career Center and your own colleges/schools:

  • Sep 13-14:           UGA Career Ctr Resume Critiques  (Grand Hall)
  • Sep 18-19:           UGA Career Ctr Resume Critiques (Grand Hall)

UGA Entrepreneurial Certificate Program (ECP)


The ECP prepares students to become successful entrepreneurs in private, public and non-profit sectors. It is also an invaluable learning opportunity for those interested in working for a startup or non-profit. The certificate is open to undergraduate students from any major.
