This reception is only held in May and initial registration will come through that invite.

New Experiential Learning Grant:

This week we also secured a number of awards, up to $500 each, to support unmet experiential learning costs tied to out-of-area internships, study abroad, and/or certification fees that directly align to your degree program. These awards are intended to assist in covering programmatic needs not already met through VA benefits, existing awards, scholarships or financial aid.

Scholarships and Awards Update:

The SVRC is constantly working with our student veterans, the community, and the UGA Foundation to help raise money to improve the veteran experience. As a result, this semester the SVRC was able to award nearly 225 scholarships and grants totaling over $130,000. This is about three times the value of what we offered during all of last year.
We are pleased that about 50% of all our student veterans took the opportunity to apply for one or more of these awards, which averaged about $600 each. At this point all the earlier awards, with the exception of the ongoing oral histories, have been processed and should be paid out shortly.

We look forward to seeing all the recipients at the Honor Cord and Award Reception on May 1st. Specific details about the event will be coming in the next few weeks.
  • NOTE: Should financial issues arise, the SVRC may be able to help. Don’t hesitate to drop by or contact us at

The UGA Washington Semester Program (WSP):

The UGA Washington Semester program is an excellent opportunity for students of all majors to earn college credits while gaining valuable work experience. Each WSP student will work a minimum of 30 hours per week at an internship location, in addition to taking select UGA classes. The program director will help each student find a relevant internship in the DC area. The WSP is a great starting point for those seeking federal employment; former WSP students have interned at:

           Congressional Offices                                    Nonprofit Organizations
