SVRC 2015 June Newsletter

Greetings,

I hope you enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to the start of the Fall semester.  As many of you know, the SVRC piloted a variety of initiatives last year that, in total, contributed to a 4-fold increase in student engagement. We credit this involvement to a significant expansion of our faculty, staff, corporate, and community networks. Leveraging these relationships, our student veterans excelled in their studies, placed into top tier mentorships/internships, and secured excellent opportunities in highly competitive job and graduate school markets.

How did we do that?  It starts with you.  We work with you to document your career or graduate school aspirations. Armed with an understanding of where you want to go, we then assess, translate, and shape your resume to get you there. Once your resume is up-to-speed we work with our partners, such as the Career Center and Terry College, to further refine your resume and expand your networks; both academic and career. Throughout all of this, you are building your narrative and redefining your brand. Because this effort may take some time, we want to get you thinking about your career readiness as soon as possible.  With that in mind, below find some upcoming milestones that may interest you:  For those of you who previously participated in our readiness program, we are welcoming four new coaches (to include three-second year MBAs) who will be reengaging with you in the coming weeks.  For those who have not engaged but want to participate, please contact Andrew Mathis, GA and program coordinator.

There is a lot going on and to keep you informed, we will start sending out our SVRC newsletters later this month.  In the interim, my Graduate Assistants and I invite you to stop by the SVRC (Rm 481 Tate), contact us at SVRC@uga.edu or call me 706-542-9692.
