Welcome Back

Welcome back to campus. We hope that your break has been rejuvenating and that you've enjoyed quality time with loved ones. As we move into Spring Semester, we have a couple of updates regarding pandemic mitigation efforts.

Spring Mask Refresh

Students on the Athens campus may pick up their new face covering at the following locations:

  • Tate Student Center Information Desk
  • Ramsey Student Center (Room 201)
  • Miller Learning Center Info Desk
  • Auxiliary Services One Stop Shop
  • All University Housing Residence Halls
  • Legion Field Surveillance Testing Site

COVID-19 Vaccine

Once the vaccine arrives on campus, the University Health Center will follow CDC and GDPH guidelines for administration. You will be formally notified as additional information becomes available. In the interim, you are encouraged to take advantage of the expanded surveillance testing that is currently offered. This testing is free and available from January 4-22 at Legion Field and various pop-up locations.

Spring SVRC Scholarship Window Opens Soon

The SVRC’s Spring Scholarship offerings include a number of awards focused on military service, leadership, academics, campus/community involvement, and/or financial need.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be full-time degree-seeking military-connected students (veterans, guard, reserve, active) pursuing all levels of study (graduate, professional, undergraduate) in good standing. Guard/Reserve members must have a minimum of 6-months of active duty service.
The application window opens on January 21 and will close on January 31 at midnight. A link to the application portal will be sent to all military-connected students no later than January 21.
Upcoming SVRC Quick Looks

This spring, the SVRC is hosting a number of Zoom-based organizational Quick Looks to provide our undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to become more familiar with potential employers and/or follow-on academic opportunities. A draft schedule of planned offerings is located on our website and includes the following:

  • UGA Graduate School Programs
  • Sancorp Consulting, LLC
  • UGA Law School Program
  • SPIA’s Masters in International Policy Program

NOTE: You must register using the links provided. Sessions that don’t meet a minimum number of registrants 48 hours before their scheduled start will be cancelled.

Additionally, Insight Global – an industry leading staffing and talent solutions firm – is seeking to hire veterans for recruiter positions. Recruiters find the right candidates for Insight Global's client staffing needs. They have 58 offices across North America. If you are interested in learning more about these positions, please email Mandy Levi.

Tillman Scholarship Window Opens Soon

The application window for the 2021 Tillman Scholars Program opens on February 1, and it will remain open until February 28. All student veterans (i.e. undergrad, graduate, and professional) are eligible to apply.

NOTE: Historically, students with compelling stories tend to compete best. If you are interested in working with a former Tillman University Partner School Liaison to review your application, please click here to request an appointment.

Student Veterans of America (SVA) Job Board

Earlier last year, the Student Veterans of America (SVA) national organization launched a new career and internship portal for student veterans. The jobs portal enables students to search, find, and apply from over two million employment opportunities. All jobs are vetted by the national SVA before publication. The portal contains original and unduplicated jobs from three sources to include:

  • The Federal Government,
  • State workforce agency job banks
  • Corporate Career websites

NOTE: To access the portal click here.

Georgia Veterans Outreach (GVO) Project

The GVO Project will host legal clinics in January, February, and March. During each regional clinic, veterans will have the opportunity to engage via ZOOM with participating attorneys. The GVO attorneys are poised to provide quick advice on issues including veterans and military benefits as well as other legal matters, such as consumer, family, housing, shelter, and other civil issues, but not including criminal law.

The project represents a partnership between the University of Georgia School of Law’s Veterans Legal Clinic and the Military Legal Assistance Project of Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP).

  • To register call 706-542-6439.

NOTE: Student veterans in the Athens area can contact the Veterans Legal Clinic anytime to set up an initial meeting/screening.

Military Sisterhood Initiative (MSI)

The Military Sisterhood Initiative (part of the non-profit Challenge America) offers a safe/inclusive space where female veterans can reconnect with one another to find/offer support, share resources, and build new friendships. MSI currently includes more than 3,700 members.

With Military Sisterhood Initiative members from all 50 states and 18 countries, 400 new members join the community each month.
