SVRC FAFSA Awards Open Next Week

Beginning as early as Monday, the SVRC will send out a call to apply for invitation-only FAFSA awards funded by the UGA Foundation. Those with current FAFSAs on file will receive priority consideration.

If you are eligible for one of these awards you will receive an email invitation from me over the coming days. You will have 72 hours to complete and submit the online form confirming your interest.
Spotlight on New 2021 Scholarships

The SVRC is fortunate to have over 20 individual, corporate, and campus scholarship sponsors.  Below we’ve spotlighted two of our most recent additions:

  • Richard and Sherry Barrett Endowed Scholarship: Richard (ABJ ’75) and Sherry (ABJ ’78) of Greenville, South Carolina recently established a scholarship to support our military-connected students. The selection criteria is broad and may include financial need, leadership, engagement and/or merit. The first two scholarships will be awarded this semester.
  • Fiserv Endowed Scholarship:  Fiserv and its predecessor – First Data – are one of our longest-serving corporate sponsors.  For example, later this semester we’ll update the name of the First Data Student Veterans Lounge in the Tate Student Center to the Fiserv Student Veterans Lounge. In the interim, Fiserv is funding a new endowed scholarship for our military-connected students, which may open up as early as Fall 2021. Stay tuned.

We appreciate all of our sponsors and, on their behalf, encourage you to apply for one of our many scholarship opportunities (see link).

More Opportunities to Earn a Few Dollars
  • Oral Histories:  We have 110 student veteran oral histories permanently stored in the UGA Special Collection Library, representing one of the largest collections in higher education. You can quickly earn a $25 gift card by adding your voice to this important collection.
  • Readiness Program:  Work one-on-one with our readiness coach to update your resume, expand your professional networks, and kick-start your brand. By doing so, you can earn $250 while improving your marketability.
Spring Quick Looks Update

We have altered our Quick Looks for Spring and instead will be facilitating one-on-one connections with our previously scheduled speakers. If you are interested in UGA Graduate Programs, UGA Law School, or the SPIA Masters in International Policy degree, please contact Mandy Levi for more information.
UGA Virtual Career Fairs and Military-Friendly Companies

This semester, the Career Center is hosting Virtual Career Fairs on February 3 (General) and February 4 (Engineering and Computer Science). Follow the links provided to register and prepare in Handshake.
Numerous companies have registered for these fairs. More than 80% have indicated that they are military-friendly employers and/or are actively hiring veterans.

Highlight Your Awards on Your Resume

When you’re writing your resume, it’s all about standing out from the pack. You may have the experience and skills you need for the job, but so do many other applicants. How do you really hammer home that you’re the best choice for the job? One way is to list awards on your resume.
Send feedback, questions, concerns, or ideas to the
