Military Appreciation and Veterans Week Activities

Picture Submission 


Service Photos Please send us a good picture of your time in the Service and we’ll display it on the new JUMBOTRON scoreboard at Sanford Stadium during UGA Military Appreciation Game on Saturday, Nov. 17. 

NOTE:  If you submit a photo for this event, you will be entered into a drawing to receive a KIRBY SMART signed and framed graphic!

Veterans Week Reception


This year’s reception is Thursday, Nov. 8 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in Tate Room 135.  
  • WHAT:  Commemorate Veterans Day by recognizing our nearly 40 Fall 2018 Scholarship recipients and
    • Give away a Kirby Smart autographed football (must be present to win)
    • Give away a Kirby Smart autographed graphic below (must be present to win)
    • Distribute UMASS football tickets (must be present/registered)
  • FOOD:  Food catered by Tazikis
  • DRESS:  Business casual

Placing of US Flags:

In honor of Georgia’s over 700,000 living veterans, our Student Veterans Association will place 700 US flags around the Memorial Garden from Nov 8-12. 

If you are available to assist in this annual tribute, please contact Steve Thompson.

Free UGA vs UMASS Tickets


Based on last year's overwhelming response, the Athletic Association has donated over 300 non-student tickets to our student veterans and their families for the Nov. 17 UMass game.

NOTE:  To receive tickets, you must register below AND attend the Veterans Week Reception. Any tickets that are not picked up at the reception will be reallocated to those on the wait list who did attend.

Student Veterans Association Tailgate


UGA TailgateThe SVA is planning a tailgate for the Military Appreciation Game on Nov. 17.  The catered tailgate will be on the Tate West Lawn near the flagpole.

Student Tour of Georgia:


During Spring Break, two dozen UGA students will visit locations across the state to engage with local communities and learn about state government while becoming familiar with UGA’s many contributions to the region. The Student Tour of Georgia is free for those students selected to participate! Program benefits include all expenses, including meals, travel, and lodging for off-campus experiences.

    • NOTE: If interested in tech/computer science or internships for MBAs, the POC will meet with you and forward your information.

  • Who: All student veterans interested jobs or internships with the USG
  • What: General discussion on the Federal hiring process
  • When/Where: Nov 15, 8:00 AM - 9:15 AM in the Career Center Conference Rm
  • Food: Free Chick-Fil-A biscuits and juice
