Happy New Year Friends & Neighbors!

Is it a human quality that makes us love a new year, new beginnings, new possibilities, new hope, new light?  On Dec. 21 we left behind the darkest day and began moving toward the light.  A chance for renewal.  Jan. 21 marks a new time for us as Americans.  For those of us who value and cherish our natural world, the rights of ALL people, freedom, justice, equality, and humanity - it's important to remember that we have the opportunity to  re-commit to that vision.  Live the world that we want.  With each breath, with each action, with each interaction.  We can stand up for what we believe in.  We can tell the truth.  We can challenge.  We can forgive.  We can love.  We must.

I'm reminded of the words of one of my favorite musicians, Libby Roderick.
"Daylight comes and nighttime goes, nighttime falls, day flies
Round and round the cycle goes, we live and then we die and then we live and then we die.
The seasons of my life go round, the sunshine and the rain
The fallow and the fruitful days, the joy and then the pain and then the joy and then the pain.
As light below, so light above, so light in all we see

The light is in the act of love, the light that sets us free, yes, it’s the light that sets free."

As I begin this first week of this first cooking cycle of 2017, I fill with resolve, I find hope, I am joy.  I so look forward to preparing delicious and nourishing foods; to exploring new flavors and textures as we try new dishes; to bring my love for the bounty of the earth and the flavors of the world to the foods we offer you.  From all of us in Alice's Kitchen, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the opportunity.  May our gratitude fill your hearts and our food fill your bellies!
