Glorious Spring

Writing this newsletter nearly every Wednesday night is a fascinating process.  Occasionally I have an idea of what I'd like to write about.  Sometimes I ask Amy for a "nugget", a seed, a spark.  But often I just sit down at the computer and wait.  Tonight I am quite fatigued.  I spent about 45 minutes perusing some old writings, looking for a beginning, because my muse (Amy!) wasn't around.  I didn't find anything.  So I waited, and there it appeared.  I typed and typed and suddenly I had something.  I was nearly ready to call it finished when I started a line about Amy seeing a comma butterfly.  I needed to clarify something with her, but she was still at a meeting.  Surprise...she pulled into the driveway a half hour early!  I read her what I had written; she said it was one of the most beautiful newsletters I'd ever written.  I completed the last line, was poised to hit the send button...and...yep, you guessed it - it disappeared.  After a few deep breaths, I spent another 45 minutes trying to retrieve it.  Even with some expert luck.  Then another 15 minutes trying to re-create it...nope, no luck there either.  So here I am wanting to share some of the beauty of life here in our hills this past week, but alas...I'm only offering you a sad story.  As our beloved friend Kristi taught us to say in just such an occasion, "Oh Well!".  I'll try again next week.

We still have a couple of spots left in the next cooking class.  .  We are diving into the world of PIZZA!  This will be another very hands-on technique class.  We'll cover making the dough, sauces, a few toppings, and finally rolling the crust and cooking the pizza.  We'll be using Connie Talbot's High Hollow Pottery flameware comales to cook thin-crust, crispy, and quick pizzas and we'll make some oven-baked pies.
The PIZZA class will be on Saturday, May 11, from 2:30-6:30, with dinner from 6:30-7:30. This class is limited to 8 people, so register early.  The price is $55 plus a $10 foods cost fee, for a total of $65.  Arrive at 2:15 or so for a 2:30 start.  To pre-register, reply to this email or call Alice at 413-634-5659.
