Pride & Shame

Very rarely my laser focus shifts from food and feeding people.  But these are extraordinary times in our country.  After days of feeling shame at sharing the same national identity with "Hillary's opponent", today I feel proud, again, to be an American.  I watched the latest speech in support of Hillary Clinton by Barack Obama, and a breathtaking speech by Michelle Obama.  Dignity, inspiration, an intellectual grasp of the complexities facing our country and our culture, and the expression of the values I so dearly cherish.  This couple embodies grace.

Our country has been teetering on the edge of two polar opposite visions.  One filled with hatred, violence, aggression, and the revolting misuse of power. The other offering hope, unity, opportunity, respect, and dare we say it...a commitment to working for liberty & justice for all.  I have found myself sickened by the news so often these past weeks.  Yes, "I'm With Her".  No, she is not my perfect candidate.  But with passion, hope, and gratitude I support Hillary Clinton, and will work for her election and the election of legislators who will work with her to create an America that values all beings on earth.  I encourage all of us to visit her website to see the many ways we can volunteer.

In the meantime, I bring my focus back to the kitchen, to what I do and love best. I fill with joy at the thought of transforming gorgeous vegetables and fruits from our homestead and local farms into foods that will nourish and sustain our community.  I am blessed to live among such fine friends and neighbors.

Amy's Nursery is open for business.  The list of plants available in Amy's pollinator nursery is now posted on the website.  All of Amy's plants have been chosen for their usefulness to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.  We hope you will stop in for a visit and to chat about how to improve your garden habitat for pollinators.  The bees and butterflies are still out and about!

Please visit our website at for further information on all our programs.  We have many ideas about how Alice's Kitchen can help build and serve our hilltown community.  We're excited to share our resources in a myriad of ways.  Stay tuned for more details and let us know how we can best serve.

It is a joy to provide delicious, nourishing, and beautiful foods, prepared with care and love, for our community.
