Practices for COP26
Daily practices offered through the Plum Village community to support the COP26 UN Climate Conference.

"When we can truly see and understand the Earth, love is born in our hearts. We feel connected. That is the meaning of love: to be at one. Only when we’ve truly fallen back in love with the Earth will our actions spring from reverence and the insight of our interconnectedness"
— Thích Nhất Hạnh,
Statement to the United Nations 2015

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Day 1 of daily of practices for COP26. We are happy to be practicing together. Recognizing that many sangha members from around the world are receiving these emails, we are including offerings for practice opportunities at home and for live gatherings that are available in multiple time zones. When looking at the schedules for live gatherings please check your time zone for accuracy.

We encourage you to visit, where we will house these practices. You may return to these practices even as we go forth from COP26.

In Gratitude,

The last day of Black History Month, is the first day of COP26, which brings parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Many BIPOC activists, especially from global south countries most impacted by climate change will be unable to attend. We come together with Baba Mandaza & Nobantu Mpotulo ( Africa), Valerie Brown (USA) & Alan Lechusza Aquallo (Turtle Island/USA Luiseno & Maidu Nations) to honour the earth. We call on BIPOC activists to use the open space to share their contributions in honour the voices of the global South most impacted by climate change and their contributions over many decades. Together our energy can effect shift-changes in mind and action.

Who we are…

The Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism is a global community of mindfulness practitioners who follow the teachings of Venerable Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh (a.k.a. “Thay,” meaning “teacher”). The Earth Holder Community is a branch of the Plum Village tree that applies Thay’s core teachings on engaged Buddhism, mindful living, social and racial justice, and inter-being with Mother Earth at this time of ecological crisis.

Earth Holders’ aim to “bring mindfulness, compassion, healing, and non-violence to protecting ourselves, each other, all beings, and the Earth.”

"The path of brotherhood and sisterhood [and kinship] is more precious than any ideology or religion.”
