Practices for COP26
Daily practices offered through the Plum Village community to support the COP26 UN Climate Conference.

"…there is only one environment; what happens to a part affects the whole."
— Thích Nhất Hạnh

Dear Friends,

We hope you are enjoying your daily practices with us and feeling connected and close to the Earth during this time of COP26. It is a great joy for us to know that because you are here, with our mindful energy and daily practice we can support the members of our community who are there at the conference. Each day that we are practicing together we can also send our collective energy to our worldwide leaders; may they embrace this opportunity for solidarity, healing and transformation, and make wise decisions for the benefit of all beings.

We encourage you to visit, where we will house these practices. You may return to these practices even as we go forth from COP26.

In Gratitude,

Sir David Attenborough Addresses World Leaders at COP26 Opening
"If working apart we are a force powerful enough to destabilize our planet, surely working together we are powerful enough to save it". Sir David Attenborough delivers a message of unity during the opening of the World Leaders Summit at COP26 in Glasgow. The speech highlights the inequality of climate change and also provides hope that through action, we will see the recovery of the natural world.

A message to our 3.5 billion neighbors on Planet Earth
In 1970, our teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh and Sister Chan Khong, together with Alfred Hassler (of the Fellowship of Reconciliation) and other leading intellectuals and scientists, helped convene Europe's first conference on the environment, in Menton, France. What resulted was the Menton Statement, released in 1971, signed by over 2,200 scientists.

Who we are…

The Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism is a global community of mindfulness practitioners who follow the teachings of Venerable Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh (a.k.a. “Thay,” meaning “teacher”). The Earth Holder Community is a branch of the Plum Village tree that applies Thay’s core teachings on engaged Buddhism, mindful living, social and racial justice, and inter-being with Mother Earth at this time of ecological crisis.

Earth Holders’ aim to “bring mindfulness, compassion, healing, and non-violence to protecting ourselves, each other, all beings, and the Earth.”

"The path of brotherhood and sisterhood [and kinship] is more precious than any ideology or religion.”
