USAID Launches Innovative Tool to Benchmark Health Systems

Côte d’Ivoire: Stronger Health Governance to Fight Emerging Health Emergencies

Poor governance has been cited as both the cause and effect of weak health systems, and corruption is seen as a major deterrent to people using the health system. Côte d’Ivoire’s Institut National d’Hygiène Publique coordinates the country’s Ebola response and oversees the prevention, detection, and response to other emerging disease threats. Recently, INHP and the Ministry of Health identified financial control and audit tools as critical components in health emergency preparedness. Learn more...

Partnership to Mobilize Local Financing for Maternal, Child Health in Cameroon

Recently, the U.S. Government and Ecobank Cameroon SA announced a new partnership that will mobilize up to U.S. $3.7 million of local financing over eight years for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) working in the health sector in Cameroon. Financing will be made available via loans to health SMEs which provide family planning, reproductive health and maternal/child health services or products. Read more...
Training on Decentralization in the Health Sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo
From May 30 to June 3, 2016, HFG co-hosted the International Course on Decentralization in the Health Sector in Kinshasa, DRC, for over 80 stakeholders. The overall objective of the course was to improve understanding of decentralization and its implications for the health sector, as well as to improve knowledge and skills in the implementation of ongoing health sector reform. Read more...
Setting the Stage for Health Care Financing Reforms in Four Nigerian States
In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, National Health Insurance Scheme, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, HFG hosted a workshop on health care financing last month. Aimed at preparing implementers and stakeholders in four HFG-supported states to undertake health care financing reforms as part of the larger push for UHC, through the implementation of State Health Insurance Schemes, the workshop also helped set the stage for building legal, institutional, and policy frameworks for supporting these reforms. Lean more...
