Message from the Women Build Committee Chair

One of the best things about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity is getting to know the partner families as you work with them to build their new homes. And the best thing about being the Women Build Committee Chair is being the person who gets to hand over the keys to the brand new home once it is complete.

On Friday, March 22, I had the honour to participate in the Key Ceremony for Jenn and her family.  Jenn is a hard working single mother of four who entered into partnership with Habitat to provide for a better life for herself and her children. Partner families go through a rigorous selection process and must complete 500 hours of sweat equity (volunteer work) prior to house possession. Not an easy task when you are working two jobs and raising your family.

As part of her sweat equity, Jenn spent many hours working on the construction of her own home. She knows the hard work and care that went into every nail and every board. Jenn also joined the Women Build Fundraising Committee and spent many hours helping the Committee to raise the funds to cover the out of pocket cost to build her Women Build Sponsored Home.
At the Key Ceremony the tissue box got plenty of use as different speakers presented Jenn with gifts and congratulated her on realizing her dream of home ownership. When Jenn received the keys she thanked those who helped her on her journey, but Jenn's positive attitude and hard work made it all possible.
As we celebrate Jenn's new home, we also are thinking of 2017's Women Build partner family and look forward to your support as we kickoff another fantastic Women Build fundraising season with events taking place in April, May & June. Stay tuned for new events taking place in the fall.
Thank you for your support!

Building Homes. Inspiring Hope. Empowering Women

Habitat for Humanity Manitoba’s Women Build Program is dedicated to improving the lives of members of our community. Our fundraising events allow us to build homes and help families gain the stability of affordable home ownership. Families who partner with Habitat for Humanity are extremely grateful for your help. A decent home gives them the strength, stability and independence they need to create a better life for themselves and their families.

Build with us during the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project!
Women Build offers volunteers the ability to learn about home building and develop leadership skills while fostering teamwork and providing great networking opportunities.
In celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary, Habitat is building 150 houses across the country, with 25 of those being built here in Manitoba. This year also marks the return of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project July 10 – 14, 2017.   Women Build will be building alongside hundreds of other volunteers during this Blitz Build.
